Why I Love My Big Ruckus

I have had my Big Ruckus for almost two years now and I love it.  It is exactly what I wanted, and I wanted it when it was still only for sale in Japan.  Here's why it is perfect for me:

I live in a big city--Phoenix--and a standard 50cc scooter is not quite enough to pull safely out into traffic.  Our streets are very busy here and I feel it is very importaqnt to be able to keep up with the flow of traffic.

Next I wanted something that I could haul groceries with.  My car works fine, but short trips in this heat was giving me some real ugly gas milage...like 14MPG.  The Big Ruckus has this fold-up rear seat and a large, sqare cooler fits on there perfectly.  I secure it with bungee cords and off I go.  I can also hold things between my legs, and further I can strap things under the front handelbars above the front wheel.  I haven't hauled quite that much yet, but I suspect I will someday.

For looks it can't be beat.  Now, scooters by nature are not held in the popular venacular as "Macho" but some are more masculine than others, and some are certainly less.  The Big Ruckus looks tough.  I think it looks like a military vehicle of some sort and many people say it reminds them of a Hummer.  So far they are not popular around here...I have never seen another one on the road, so I am happy to enjoy the novelty of having the only one.

I didn't want a motorcycle.  I don't plan to drive on the freeway where I feel an accident equals death.  The Big Ruckus could go on the freeway as it tops out at around 70MPH.  I had heard gas milage could be as high as 70 MPG, but I am getting a lifetime average of 55MPG (burning super premium).  I could do better if I didn't goose it so often, but that is the fun of it.  It gooses just fine...and I'm a big boy, over 200 pounds.

So it is the hauling practicality, looks, uniqueness, power, speed, and gas milage that I love.

I just bought one this past weekend and I LOVE it. I live in Statesboro, Ga. , I'm from Atlanta. I had always wanted aq scooter not a motorcycle. I have easily gotten this thing up to 70mph & I'm pulling about 75-80 mpg. I like the unique looks of this scooter and I love the comments I get about it, which is weird since I'm in a monster truck & Harley region full of bubba's. This scooter fits me perfectly, I'm 5'11" and about 210 lbs. What a great ride I think everyone should get a scooter.

Had mine since 2006 (finally in Black/Grey). Love it. Blow through NYC traffic (cabbies hate me). I can get mine up to 75 on the expressway. Even at $3+ per gallon, $8 keeps me moving for the week. Park it almost anywhere. Eat Vespas for lunch. Get the "what the hell is it" look a lot and plenty of "that's f**king cool" nods. Can't afford a Harley. Won't ride a delivery-boy scoot (zuma and zuma knock offs). Vespas are for chicks and euro pillow-biters. Props to Honda for the awsome BR. "The 2 wheels ATV" "The Urban Assual Vehicle" "The 75mph lounge chair" Why Honda discontinued it I'll never know. With all the questions I get, I'm surprised they don't litter the streets. I've only seen two in NYC (both yellow "05's). I like being the sole rep in the Big Crapple. Hope you ENJOY yours as I do mine!!!

I bought my 2005 last year and I just love it. I'm 5'2" and can still put my feet on the ground. I especially like the low seat and the lower center of gravity. I love the gas mileage and knowing I have the power to ride on the highway. I just bought a small trailer and plan on taking it to florida. I too have not seen another one on the road. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the ruckus to anyone!

Ha ha!! I must say this is the ugliest, dumbest-looking thing around, except for its baby brother, plastic, disposable cousins (Zumo comes to mind).
The name, for starters, kinda prepares you for something really lame. Big Ruckus? C'mon, how insecure were they about their product, that they had to try to find something "bold" (yeah, sure) to name it, to try to convince the most mentally-challenged that this was something other than a cheap little sissy's vehicle. Reminds me of the Suzuki Samurai, as they took a liitle compact car engine and chassis, and tried to disguise it as a real truck, so that the ladies would have something to drive they could actually manage. The Korean scooter company Kymco, which produces scooters at least as crappy as the Ruckus, tried competing in the stupid design and name departments, with the thing they called "Grand Dink"!!! Maybe it sounds awesome in Korean; in English, it just sucks...

@Runamuckus: "Vespas are for chicks and euro pillow-biters": Ignorance at its most laughable. You should go tell the skinheads in England what you think about their bikes. You wouldn't last a minute, as they tend to argue swinging baseball bats & wrenches, and they'd probably find one of their gang drunk enough to make YOU bite the pillow, just for laughs. They only ride Vespas & Lambrettas. Vespas were around decades before the japs started trying to copy (they were the first scooter ever, back in 1948), and flooded the market with cheapo, ugly bikes, that ended up in the hands of tasteless people like you. I guess you'd know what a pillow biter is, since you probably went: " Oh! Big (unuseful) wheels! Fake crash bars! A name composed of "Big" and "Ruckus"!! I'll go buy this, so maybe people won't think I'm such a loser anymore!! Maybe they'll even think I'm cool (if they drive a KIA)! Yay!!"

Anyway, MOMA in NY has showcased a Vespa for years (for its great design), and they last a lifetime. Neither can be said of BR, or any other throw-away-as-soon-as-the-warranty's-over rice burner...
I guess what's important is that YOU think it's cool. But I wouldn't embarrass myself by saying it in public...
