Summary

The general opinion of the 60 reviews on the MTBR.com review site is that the Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc is an excellent value for people who are new to the Mountain Biking sport.  With a frame of inredible quality it's best to buy the bike, and upgrade the components as necessary as your skills improve and you start focusing on different kinds of riding.

Positives

A rock solid, versatile, and well constructed frame is the greatest strength of the bike, with many people opting to keep the frame and upgrade the parts instead of purchasing more expensive bikes in the $1500 range.  A lot of people really love the disc brakes, as well as the included shocks and tires.  What many of the users really enjoyed was how adaptable the bike was for their various needs.  Many of them purchased this bike as an entry into the sport so they're biking in all kinds of conditions, from easy trails to uphill climbs and rugged downhill slopes, to commuting to work.  For all of these conditions the bike performs well.

Negatives

The biggest complaint about the bike revolves around the poor pedals and grips that come standard.  Many people had the pedals break on them in a short amount of time, and most people found the grips to be almost worthless without gloves on.  Another complaint a few people had revolved around the front suspension fork.  Specialized advertises the bike as an all-use item, but the front shocks are not meant for bigger drop offs and jumps, with a few users reporting the fork getting bent.  Most complaints revolve around the quality of the components, but that's just compared to more expensive offerings, compared to other bikes in the same price range the Specialized is above average in that department.

I bought the bike about two months ago as an entry level bike. Man, I coould not be more happy. There are a ton of trails here in South Orange County and the bike has worked very well. (Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc - 2007). I have read many reviews about the components being below average, but I have not really experienced any problems. It was a good choice for me as an entry level bike. Cant beat the value. Thanks to REVO bike shop in Dana Point. Great service, great advice and very inviting...its shops like this that get a person hooked!

I have had my bike for two years now and it was a great bike. The solid frame that took a beating on the bike trails. The marzocchi fork is really premo and if you look at the forks that come with a bike at this price you will realize what a deal you are getting. The components aren't anything fancy, but I would go on mtb trips and but 50 miles of sweet single track on the bike with no complications.
