I saw this bike at my local bike store; it really stood out for some reason. Maybe it's the orange paint job and the disc brakes, but I think some of its appeal has to do with it being a practical commuter with its included mud guards. I live in Seattle and clearly this bike has Northwest commuters in mind (frequent rain). Yet despite this pragmatic side of the bike it has a techy urban cool to it you don't typically see in bikes with fenders.. The price is right too.

My only issues with this bike are that it's supposed to be a commuter bike yet it has no chain guard or kickstand. It's hard to add an after-market kickstand due to the combination of the disk brake mechanism between the seat and chain stays, the squared chainstay, and the cables that run beneath the bottom bracket. I found the original tires a bit narrow, but the frame allows for a wider replacement. I also replaced the 7 degree race stem with a more humane 17 degree one. (Honestly, who wants to "race" to work?!?)

Are you kidding me? Your peeve is that you can't put a kickstand on it? Wow. If you don't want to 'race' to work, take the bus. Great bike.

Kickstands: I'm with tlt on this. A bike without a kickstand is for long country rides, not for commuting and doing chores. Also: the fenders in the photo are way too small to keep down the spray.

I have the 2007 Portland. This is my first bike with Disk Brakes. I find the brakes to be something I need to get used to, but I do love the stopping power the discs offer, especially in rain and fog!!!!

I love the ride and feel of the bike. The STI shifters and 105 gearing make this a bike that is worth the money weather you use it for daily commuting or trail riding! I use it for both. Makes it hard to choose between my Trek 520 and the Portland when it comes to distance rides! Love This Bike!!!!
