2009 Nissan Altima Coupe

The 2009 Nissan Altima Coupe is a marginal update to the previous year's newly introduced 2008 Altima Coupe. While the models between the two years are almost identical save for some minor improvements on the 2009 - including a higher-finish grille and larger wheel sizes on the more expensive trim levels - the differences with the Altima Sedan are quite significant. Most obvious is the exterior styling of the two cars as the Coupe has both a shorter wheel-base and shorter height to achieve a sportier look while sacrificing interior room, particularly in the trunk area. Interior-wise both cars feature a very similar setup using the same engine and offering almost identical packages. The Altima Coupe stands out somewhat from the crowd, and even from the Sedan model, as the base packages include a relatively large amount of premium features including heated seats, 6-speaker audio system, side airbags, moonroof, power-everything, etc. There are 2 main trim levels with an optional premium package per trim.

I spent a lot of time research cars, and this car in particular before finally pulling the trigger. I have to say that overall I'm extremely pleased with the purchase, and think it's the absolute perfect fit for me. I'm a relatively young guy with no kids or anything like that, and I like to enjoy my driving. I opted for the 2.5L engine since I was on a tight budget and couldn't justify the extra performance. Ultimately though I'm satisfied that every dollar I spent on this car went to something I value.

A lot of times manufacturers force unnecessary features or gizmos that cost an extra thousand or so, but every single safety, electronics, driving and performance feature I actually want and use. In fact some of those features have turned out to be a lot more useful and valuable than I first expected. The intelligent key system is really sweet and it's so convenient to never have to take the key out of your pocket. I don't even think of it.

Another special thing I want to mention is just how luxurious of a ride it is. Some people like being more connected to the road, and while I do appreciate that, fundamentally I'm not racing and just want a comfortable ride. It's extremely quiet and smooth and feels like a more expensive luxury car.

If you do haul stuff around on a regular basis then the small trunk size WILL become an issue. Also if you drive people around often then the coupe nature of the car will also become an issue. But if those are regular parts of your routine then why are you considering this car in the first place?? What it does, it does very well, and I'd recommend this car to anyone looking for a well-priced coupe.

Update as of April, 2009. Had the car for almost 6 months now and it's still a joy to drive. No mechanical problems to speak of and the ride is staying just as smooth.

My only nitpick now, is that I'm seeing a lot more of these cars on the road. But that's just me being selfish and petty. The car's popularity is really a testament to how good of a buy it is.
