The anime that brought the japanese cartoons into the mainstream in North America. Based upon the 6-volume 2000 page manga, Akira follows Kaneda and his biker gang in Neo Tokyo as they fight against a corrupt society, the military, and old looking kids with psychic powers. Animation and art is brilliant. And the music is fantastic. If you consider yourself the slightest fan of japanese animation, or want to watch something different, do yourself a favour and watch this classic piece of film history.
