The Alienware M17x is a more expensive version of the Alienware M17 laptop. The extra expense goes into high end graphics and gaming hardware, such as the NVIDIA GeForce SLI graphics card and the Binary GFX technology that allows the consumer to switch between discrete or integrated graphics. The Alienware M17x offers a unique security option - facial recognition software that uses the laptop's webcam to identify the owner by biomentric measurements, impossible to steal, unlike a typed password. The built-in 2.0 megapixel webcam comes with a digital microphone array. One unnecessary item that laptop comes with is a personalized plaque that identifies each custom built laptop to its owner. However, the manufacturer makes sure to note that the nameplate is not available to be printed with Nordic languages.
