The 740G is the entry-level chipset in AMD's 7-Series line of chipsets. The 740G chipset comes integrated with the ATI Radeon 2100 graphics adapter. A PCI-E 1x16 slot is reserved for an additional graphics card, as well as 4x1 PCI-E slots for other PCI devices. The 740G is compatible with DDR2 SDRAM. The socket supports AMD's Athlon64 and Phenom family of processors, as well as the Sempron chip. The southbridge supports up to 12 USB 2.0 connections and 6 SATA-2 connections, including e-SATA devices. The 740G supports AMD's Cool n' Quiet 2.0 technology, which allows for energy-efficient processor options and power-saving modes.
