The AMD Phenom X4 9600 was the fastest of the two AMD first-generation quad core processors initially released. Due to the TLB bug found within the first B2 stepping release, however, the release of the chip was met with lackluster fanfare. While still a considerable powerhouse CPU, the 9600 was replaced with a later B3 stepping core and renamed the 9650. About a month after it's release, a more expensive model, the 9600BE was released. This release allowed computer enthusiasts to more easily overclock by allowing the CPU multiplier to be changed.
