The Yamaha A-S700 is a hi-fi natural sound stereo amplifer that falls in the middle of those offered by Yamaha. This system uses a new, superior approach to analog amplifier design with a full floating and balance circuit design including a floating balanced power amp and fully balanced control amp. The Source Direct setting on the PM5004 bypasses all tone controls normally applied by the amplifier, producing unaltered audio from source. The Onkyo P-3000R is a high-end pre-amplifier. In promotion, Onkyo emphasizes the fact that the P-3000R was designed with a style reminiscent of the company's classic stereo models from the 1980s. The Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry (DIDRC) feature of this pre-amplifier helps to counteract unwanted high-frequency interference. The Onkyo M-5000R is a high-end power amplifier. This amplifier was designed by Onkyo to resemble their 1980s stereo models (the large front-panel analog power meters of this amplifier look like the classic M-405 model), and they promote it as offering the best of the traditional and modern. The Marantz SM-11S1 is a reference stereo power amplifier that is a part of Marantz's reference series of A/V devices. The two channel outputs use unique parallel line layout for high channel separation and use a two-stage amplifier fora ccurate speaker drive which gives 110 watts per channel, which doubles to 220 watts when using low impedance speakers. There is a high speed evolved HDAM SA3 module, which has the ability to accurately track rapidly changing audio signals for high sound fidelity. The high current power supply is based on a toroidal transformer and is sealed in an aluminum case mounted to the chassis on a 10mm thick aluminum base which feeds high quality circuit parts which are selected to give maximum souind quality. Other features used to minimize signal interferance include a power meter to monitor output levels that uses Hall-effect magnetic devices to monitor current flow to the speakers without directly tapping the output itself. The NAD M2 Direct Digital Amplifier is an integrated amplifier that essentially replaces a standard DAC, premaplifier, and power amplifier by directly converting PCM signals from a digital source into a pulse-width modulation (PWM) signal that switches the unit’s output transistors on and off. It basically converts standard digital signals into ones that can power a loudspeaker or subwoofer. Unfortunately this means that standard analog signals (phonostage, SACD, etc) must first be manually converted to PCM. Included are two pairs of analog inputs (RCA, XLR) that automatically convert signals to 24-bit digital with a user-selectable sample rate of 48, 96, or 129kHz; several digital inputs (AES/EBU, TosLink, TosLink loop); and an RS232 port for external control via a PC. Though highly praised by critics, many purists have been reluctant to invest in an M2. Many are waiting for additional features like HDMI and USB to be incorporated before they make the switch.

Unlike its predecessor, the inexpensively priced 20Wpc 3020, the more elite M3 features a more solid build with higher quality components. But critics note that its build quality is much better than you would expect from an amplifier in this price range. Regardless, the amp offers six pairs of single-sided pairs, one pair of balanced (XLR) inputs, and two sets of speaker output terminals with plastic-protected connectors suited for banana plugs & pins, but not for audiophile-grade cables. Compared to competitors like the Outlaw, the UPA-1 is more stylish and full-featured. And it’s priced lower, giving it an enhanced price to performance ratio. The problem though is that the low cost was achieved by using a less solid & heavy duty built via the shared chassis. Nevertheless, the amplifier has received a lot of praise from users who recommend it as an inexpensive solution for an at-home theater system.
