As the follow-up album to
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, I had pretty high hopes for this album going into it. Although, I'm not a die-hard Flaming Lips fan (you know who you are), I do enjoy a lot of their music, and especially a lot of the music off of Yoshimi.
After a first listen-through this weekend, I am left underwhelmed. The first two tracks are very promising and show a dirtier rock rythm that even reminds me a bit of The Faint. However, the rest of the album degrades back into the familiar, and even boring.
This is only a first impression, and some of the promise seen in the album will have me listening to it a few more times before it moves to the back of my collection.
