Introduced in late October 2008 at a suggested retail price of $129, the ATI Radeon HD 4830 is a medium to high end graphics card. Created to compete with the Nvidia 9800GT the 4830 is priced similarly and functions at a very similar level. Ranked higher than the Radeon HD 4670 - a strictly middle-of-the-road option with a tight 128bit memory bus (which only allows the card to function well at lower gaming resolutions) - the 4830 shares much more in common with the older and more established 4850 (its GPU based soley on a downgraded version of the RV770)- a $200 high end gaming card that took the market by storm earlier in June.

Pros
- cheaper than the relatively costly 4850
- adds a good option for those who want to step up from a 4670 but don't desire to pay double
- 256bit VRAM interface
Cons
- artificially gimped version of the 4850
- 9800 GT is not any worse when price:performance is measured
- same power usage and heat output as the faster card
