Audio Technica ATH-ON3

The Audio Technica ATH-ON3 is an ultra-light, adjustable portable hedphone with a comfortable, custom fit. The Audio Technica ATH-ON3 includes two sub-models: Audio Technica ATH-ON3BK and Audio Technica ATH-ON3W. Both models feature generously cushioned earpads, an ultra-light adjustable headband, and a 30 mm Neodymium driver designed to deliver exceptional clarity and smooth, natural sound. In addition, each model swivels for maximum portability and fold-flat storage. They also come equipped with a 4 ft. Y cord and gold-plated mini-plug and a protective storage pouch. Whereas the ATH-ON3BK is only available in black, the ATH-ON3W (designed for women) can be purchased in either dark gray, white, teal blue, or pink. Both models are priced at $34.95, a $25 savings from the slightly superior Audio Technica ATH-ES3.

A friend of mine recently got these for me from Japan for the equivalent of $25 Canadian. They're pretty slick. I really like the off-white with brown pads in all the pictures, so I had her pick up this version. Unfortunately the pads are slightly more red than I hoped.

To get the best sound out of them you need to have a good seal for bass, but this is pretty difficult to get - perhaps they will break in over time making it easier. Otherwise I'd say they sounded amazing for the price.

On the other hand, they're highly functional if you like sharp looking headphones that are easy to wear around the neck. One of the worst parts about bringing around full sized headphones (as apposed to any type of IEM) is the fact that you can't easily store them or wear them around the neck without them annoying you. With such a slim cord you get a huge range of neck motion without restriction.
