While not widely regarded in North America, those that go Audio-Technica often don't come back. A step closer towards perfection than the ATH-W1000, the Audio-Technica ATH-W5000 continues the closed back line replacing the entry level aluminum shell of the ATH-A700 and 900 with more luxurious wood. Known for their comfort, Audio-Technica's ATH-W5000 is no slouch in the sound quality department, improving on the qualities of earlier models. While featuring a closed design which isolates you slightly from the outside world, the large body, wood shell and enormous price tag makes the W1000 a poor option for travel or listening on the go. Rather, it is much better suited for use in a quieter environment for things such as gaming, watching tv or listening to music.

Pros
- closed style helps isolate the listener from their world - where external noise may ruin the listening experience
- like the D-5000 can be found much cheaper than official MSRP
- more refined than the AH-D5000 - possible candidate to challenge the best of the best?
Cons
- much more expensive than the D-5000! Almost double!
- may still be poorly put together much like the AH-D5000
- Still non-suiteble for classical and acoustic music. Despite of having more tremble and providing larger stage, than AH-D5000, it's still lack of it in comparison with Audio-Technica ATH-W5000.

With beautiful mahogany cups, the luxury AH-D5000 was Denon's flagship headphone until it was replaced by the AH-D7000 in August 2008. Often overlooked by Headphone enthusiasts due to it's poor price/performance ratio and build quality, the D5000 has recently become popular due to several new modification procedures done by head-fi's Markl. With these modifications...
