The B&W 685 is the larger of two bookshelf/stand mountable main speakers in Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) affordable high-end 600 series of home audio speakers. These smaller sized speakers are ideal for a hi-fi or home cinema system in a small to medium sized room. These speakers can be wall mounted, shelf/table mounted or are also designed to mount on the B&W's FS-700/CM stand (not included). The 6.5" woven Kevlar cone handles all bass and mid frequencies, and the incorporated fixed centre bullet helps smooth the response into upper frequencies. The 1" aluminum dome tweeter, which handles all high frequencies, is mounted closer to the driver to improve the integration and vertical dispersion of the two units. The tweeter is contained in a Nautilus tapering tube, which is designed to only project sound through a hollow pole magnet frontwards, and is tapered towards the rear to eliminate reflections off the rear of the cabinet producing unwanted sound effects. The B&W 685 is avaialable in four vinyl finishes: black ash, light oak (not available in USA/Canada), red cherry and wengé; and comes with a removable black cloth grill. The B&W 685 is sold for $325 per speaker, and is also sold as the front L/R speakers in the B&W 685 home theatre system, and as rear L/R speakers in the B&W 684 home theatre system.
