The B&W 686 is the smallest set of main speakers available in Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) affordable high-end 600 series of home audio speakers. These compact speakers are a perfect solution for superior sound in a smaller room, and can be wall mounted, shelf/table mounted or are also designed to mount on the B&W's FS-700/CM stand (not included). The 5" woven Kevlar cone handles all bass and mid frequencies, and the incorporated fixed centre bullet helps smooth the response into upper frequencies. The 1" aluminum dome tweeter, which handles all high frequencies, is mounted closer to the driver to improve the integration and vertical dispersion of the two units. The tweeter is contained in a Nautilus tapering tube, which is designed to only project sound through a hollow pole magnet frontwards, and is tapered towards the rear to eliminate reflections off the rear of the cabinet producing unwanted sound effects. The B&W 686 is avaialable in four vinyl finishes: black ash, light oak (not available in USA/Canada), red cherry and wengé; and comes with a removable black cloth grill. The B&W 686 is $240 per speaker, and is also sold as the rear L/R speakers in the B&W 685 home theatre system.
