Kona Five-O (2010)

The Kona Five-O is a DJ/Slopestyle BMX bike featuring a 7005 Aluminum frame that is tough, durable, affordable, light and supposedly dependable. It sits right underneath the Kona Bass, but unlike its superior counterpart, the Five-O lacks a 4-Bar Linkage System; plus it hosts slightly lower-quality components. Like its predecessor, however, the Five-O boasts the three most important Kona BMX pieces: an internal headrest for slamming, an aluminum frame for popping, and custom components for snapping. The headrest is located inside the heat tube, which helps it share the load for stronger, improved ride characteristics. Included also is a sloping top tube for more free body movement, and a compact rear triangle for stability and power transfer.

The Kvant, like all of DK's 2010 BMXs, is being promoted by DK as an improvement over previous models. The Kvant has many of the same features of DK's other low-cost Park/Trail models, the main differences being in the wheels (36H Alienation rim in the front, Blacksheep rim w/ alloy hubs in the back) and color options. As the base unit in Kona’s BMX series, the Shred is kind of all-around bike for dirt jumping and mountain cruising. Included are inexpensive components like a Marzocchi Dirt Jumper fork, Hayes mechanical disc brakes, and a Shimano drivetrain. Despite its budget-friendliness, the Shred does still feature the most touted Kona componentry, such as a sloping top tube for more free body movement; an internal headrest for enhanced shock resistance; and a compact rear triangle with short chain stays for an enhanced balance between stability and power transfer.

Like all the bikes in this series, the Haro F24 is made for tricking. This means that it is built to stand up to punishment. The 48h alloy shell loose ball hubset is an indication of this focus on durability. This hubset will last through harsh landings. This bike is equipped with 39/16 ACS Freewheel gearing, a feature unique in the F series. This gearing gives the rider the power to shift on a dime, which is obviously a useful feature for any trick biker. The Hi-Ten handlebars that come stock on the Haro F24 have a 5.25" rise. This helps to keep the rider in the optimum position for pulling tricks. Though it is said to be a little bulky like the other BMXs in the F series, the Haro F24 has received extremely positive reviews.

The Haro Pro XL is a mid-priced bike in the Haro Pro-Am line of BMXs. Like all the bikes in this product line, the Haro Pro XL is made for racing. The Intense Micro Knobby tires that come stock on all the Pro-Am BMXs ensure that the racer will have control over their bike at high speeds and in rough environments. The Haro Pro XL also comes with 39/14 gearing. This feature allows the rider to change gears quickly, which is a must for any serious racer. The Hi-Ten handlebars on the Haro Pro XL have an 8" rise in them. This helps the rider to stay in a comfortable, controlled position. As a mid-priced racing BMX, the Haro Pro XL has received very positive reviews.

The Haro Pro is a mid-priced bike in the Haro Pro-Am line of BMXs. Like all the bikes in this line, the Haro Pro is geared toward racing. The Intense Micro Knobby front and rear tires that come stock on the Haro Pro help to ensure that the rider has control when the speed gets high or the terrain gets rough. The Haro Pro also comes equipped with 39/14 gearing. This feature helps the rider switch gears quickly on the fly. To go with these features which emphasize control in the face of speed, the SINZ Sticky Grips help the rider feel they have control over their grip, a must when a race gets disorienting. Though there are many decent features here, the Haro Pro does not appear to live up to its price tag. As such, the reviews of it have not been especially positive.
