The durable frame is made of santoprene material and the windows are made of clear polycarbonate. These 2 layers form a protective skin around the glass beaker that helps prevent breakage. The glass beaker can easily be removed for cleaning and placement in the dishwasher - water will tend to collect there if you don't pull it out to wash it.
