A Wrinkle in Time

A Wrinkle In Time was written by Madeleine L'Engle between 1959 and 1960. The book was rejected by 26 publishers before being accepted, ironically going on to win numerous awards including the Newbery Medal, Sequoyah Book Award, and Lewis Carroll Shelf Award. It has since become a children's classic with over 8 million copies in print and more than 15,000 sold each year still.

A Wrinkle in Time is a combination coming-of-age and science fiction story. It centers around Meg Murray, a shy and awkward teenager; her younger brother, Charles Wallace, a five-year-old super genius who provides many insights during the book; and Calvin O'Keefe, the older neighbour boy who joins them on their adventures.

The story is a classic good-versus-evil tale, although the battles don't center around swords and fighting but rather mind manipulation and being strong in the face of evil. L'Engle's unique take on the science-fiction world combined theology, strength of character and the folding of space-time, creating an intensely loved novel by people the world over. Peppered with characters like Mrs Whatsit, Mrs Who and Mrs Which, transcendental beings who help the kid on their journey, the story lends itself to many different types of readers.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The seventh, and final book in the fantastically popular Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is set to be released on July 21st, 2007. JK Rowling has stated that Deathly Hallows is so closely tied to the Half-Blood Prince that she regards them as two halves to the same novel. Very little is known about this last entry to Harry Potter's time at Hogwarts except that it will contain the final battle between Harry and Lord Voldemort.

At the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry decides to embark on the quest of finding and destroying Lord Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes. There have been a lot of rumors and "supposed" spoilers, but ultimately no one really knows what will happen or who will die. JK Rowling has stated on her site that she especially wants readers who have grown up with Harry to embark on his last quest without knowing where he is headed.

Some rumors and theories on the net have been corrected by Rowling. For instance, one theory is that at the end of Book 7, Harry and Voldemort will "merge" to form a single persona who can command both the forces of good and evil. Rowling has explicity stated that this event will never happen, seeing that Harry will never wish to be able to command Death Eaters/Demontors/Inferi.

JK Rowling will be doing a huge book signing event on midnight of July 21st, 2007 and will be signing through the night! 1,700 lucky Harry Potter fans will have their books signed by Rowling at the Natural History Museum in London. These fans will receive a free copy of the book, courtesy of Bloomsbury. 500 randomly selected fans will also get the chance to hear Rowling read from the book at midnight.

Furthermore, Bloomsbury has taken extra steps to ensure that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows remains unspoiled until the release date. Copies of the book are being sent out to retailers on Tuesday and the trucks carrying these books will be fitted with satellite tracking systems costing up to 1,000 pounds. These systems are designed to make sure the trucks do not deviate from their prescribed route. The books are also on sealed pallets that are fitted with alarms to prevent any tampering. A Bloomsbury spokeperson has also stated that they have a litigation specialist poised 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to deal with any breaches. They will be enforcing the embargo vigorously and will seek an immediate injunction if required. Experts have estimated the cost of all this at around 10 million pounds, but this is not surprising considering the popularity of the Harry Potter books.

Major cities and bookstores across the world are releasing the book with huge book party launches so be sure to check out the one nearest you!

From her childhood in America, as part of Princeton's first co-ed graduate class, then on to working in the Middle East, and eventually meeting the King and falling in love, Queen Noor writes with a distinct voice and a constant plea for peace and tolerance. Her firsthand experience with Middle-East politics, from the conflicts, the wars, talks, and humanitarian efforts gives readers a glimpse of perspective. She also shares her various struggles, triumphs, and disappointments, from personal experiences to public ones. She shares her thoughts, feelings, and devotion to her late husband's battle with cancer and her dedication to carry on his legacy. Her constant theme of peace, tolerance, and unity is refreshing as she urges Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike to come together in harmony.

But it hasn't always been that way. From his troubled childhood in Essex, his addictions to drink, drugs and sex that found him drying-out in clinics all over the world. This memoir charts the peaks and troughs of his thorny rise to fame, and introduces us to the man behind the hair.

A Million Little Pieces

From the Publisher

"Imagine waking up on a plane. You have no idea where you have been or where you are going, you have no memory of the preceding two weeks." "Imagine that your front four teeth have been knocked out, your nose is broken, and there is a gash on your cheek. Imagine that you have no wallet, no money, no job." "Imagine the police in three states are looking for you." "Imagine that you have been an alcoholic for ten years and a crack addict for three. What would you do? What would you do?" When he entered a residential treatment center at the age of twenty-three, James Frey had destroyed his body and his mind almost beyond repair. He faced a stark choice: accept that he wasn't going to see twenty-four or step into the fallout of his smoking wreck of a life and take drastic action. Surrounded by patients as troubled as he - including a judge, a mobster, a former world-champion boxer, and a fragile former prostitute - and a droning dogma of How to Recover, Frey had to fight to find his own way to confront the consequences of the life he had lived so far, and to determine what future, if any, he holds. A Million Little Pieces is an uncommonly genuine account of a life destroyed and a life reconstructed.

The Book of Bunny Suicides: Little fluffy rabbits who just don't want to live anymore is a collection of black & white cartoons showing one or more rabbits in their creative attempts to end their lives using a variety of items. The hilarity that ensues marks the authour, Andy Riley, as a comical genius. He's aware of the fine balance between unlikely gore and straight-up comedy. Where else will you see a Bunny impaled on a light saber? This book might not be for everyone, but for those that will find it funny, will find it ridiculously funny.

Simpson about how he, hypothetically, would've killed his ex-wife Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. This was a hugely publicized criminal case in which the former NFL star was acquitted, but subseqently was found financially liable in a civil wrongful death trial.

The Goldman family appeared on Oprah on September 13th, 2007 promoting the book that will soon hit shelves. The Goldman family acquired the book as part of restitution of in the aforementioned civil court case because O.J. had failed to make all of his payments on the 33.5M lawsuit. The Goldman family added some chapters of their own and will profit from its sale. They say the money will go towards their court fees and the Ron Goldman Foundation.

Follow this seemingly narcissistic, rude, and petulant man as he wades through the suffering that is dealing with his girlfriend, dealing with his friends, and other annoyances in his life. Other tasks he performs on a regular basis: fantasizing about women, watching porn, and playing video games. Not for the faint of heart the novel is crass, vulgar and quite explicit.

The Children of Húrin

After being restored by J.R. R. Tolkien's son, Christopher Tolkien, The Children of Húrin is a celebration of Tolkien's narrative and storytelling skills. Fans of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings will be delighted with this epic tale of Elves and Men, orcs, dragons, all set in the backdrop of Middle-earth.

The story begins with Turin, who's father Hurin was captured by the Dark Lord Morgoth and his monstrous army. All of Middle-earth is under Morgoth's rule and for Hurin's defiance, his entire family is cursed by Morgoth to be brought down into darkness and despair.

Turin refuses to be cowed by Morgoth and he gathers around him a band of outlaws and gradually they begin to turn the tide in the war for supremacy of Middle-earth. Morgoth unleashes his greatest weapon: Glaurung, the Mightiest of Dragons, and he proves to be an unstoppable foe. There remains only one man on Middle-earth who can slay him, but to do that he must first confront his destiny.

This story was one of three Great Tales started by J.R.R. Tolkien as he was recovering from the horrors of WWI, and he worked on it for the rest of his life. Painstakingly reconstructed by Christopher Tolkien from his father’s manuscripts, it can finally be enjoyed as the author originally intended.

Set in present-day Toronto, the novel begins with three women (Roz, Charis, and Tony) who meet once a month in a restaurant to share a meal. They'd recently come from a funeral for a former friend and ongoing rival of theirs named Zenia. During their most recent outing, they see Zenia, a woman they'd all grown up with who stole their respective beaux. The novel alternates between the present and flashbacks by Roz, Charis, and Tony respectively, each one with a different background for Zenia, the title character.
Added from en.wikipedia.org

When she meets the dashing officer Count Vronsky she rejects her marriage and turns to him to fulfill her passionate nature -- with devastating results. One of the world's greatest novels, Anna Karenina is both an immortal drama of personal conflict and social scandal and a vivid, richly textured panorama of nineteenth-century Russia.

While previous versions have softened the robust, and sometimes shocking, quality of Tolstoy's writing, Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky have produced a magnificent translation that is true to his powerful voice. This award-winning team's authoritative edition also includes an illuminating introduction, a list of principal characters, suggestions for further reading, and full explanatory notes.

Beautiful, vigorous, and eminently readable, this Anna Karenina will be the definitive rendition for generations to come.

How can honest people be induced to behave illegally, and moral people seduced to act immorally? the answers to such questions lie at the hear of the fascinating exploration of the darker side of human nature.

Please rewrite in original words from a neutral point of view, and if you're the writer, please move this to the comments section.

Project Quick Cash is a new ebook product from Alok Jain. He has created several other products that have been quite a hit. This ebook however, he promises to be the best out of them all.

In project quick cash Alok claims to have revealed five tactics that he uses everyday to make $1000+ on the Internet. I have had the pleasure of getting a review copy of the ebook. Having the experience I have I am a good judge of the methods.

Methods 1 and 2 are pretty good. With these you can make around $20 a day. Not nearly $1000. But $20 a day is an extra $600 a month, which is a nice supplemental income. However, you can duplicate the same methods and increase that number exponentially if you do it right.

Methods 3-5 are the real meat of the book. It offers strategies on Adwords advertising, and getting quality clicks for less than a cent a visitor. This strategy I have just begun testing and have seen amazing results. I actually grossed about $250 in one day with this strategy and a good campaign. Of course you will need "some" experience to maximize the benefits, but Newcomers can take advantage of these too.

Musicophilia is neurologist Oliver Sacks' latest book delving into "different brained" people. The book focuses on music and its impact on people afflicted with different reactions to music. One patient is a man who after being struck by lightening, is suddenly inspired to become a concert pianist. Sacks also examines a group of children with Williams Syndrome who have an extreme love of music right from birth. As a contrast, he examines a group of people with amusia - they hear a symphony as if it's just pots and pans banging away. He also examines an especially intriguing patient who has no short term memory and can't remember anything that happened more than 7 seconds ago, except when it comes to music, which he can remember thoroughly.

Oliver Sacks has been an instrumental person in bringing rare brain phenomenon to the mainstream. With Musicophilia he examines how music goes wrong in some individuals and how it goes absolutely right in most others. He features inspiring stories of Alzeimer's patients, patients suffering from Parkinson's and stroke victims and how music helped in some way.

They're yummy. And now everyone can whip up a batch for themselves using this cookbook. Many children have probably made green eggs and ham using copious amounts of green food coloring, but here, the ham is green thanks to a coating made from cilantro and tomatillos, and the eggs' usually yellow yolks are covered by a mound of guacamole. Filled with simple, scrumptious, wacky recipes for such foods as Cat in the Hat Pudding and Moose Juice and Schlopp, this unique cookbook will have the whole family hamming it up in the kitchen. Each recipe is accompanied by the original verse that inspired it, and the pages are laminated to protect against getting splatters of Sneetch Salad, Oobleck, and Solla Sollew Stew.

As much a book of philosophy or epistemology, Meta Math! is the quest for a special number Ω that demonstrates that math is not as straight forward as it may seem.
Building on the concepts of Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem and Alan Turing's Halting Problem, Chaitin seeks a truly irreducible (random) number that sheds light on what is truly unknowable. If you're Norman Mailer, examining the minds, motivations and motifs of the infamous are regular past times. The Castle in the Forest is biographic fiction, detailing the origins of Adolf Hitler. Weaving fact with fancy, and no clear demarcations on where one ends, and one begins, Mailer recounts Hitler's ancestral backgrounds, up to his birth on to his early teenage years.

The fashion with which Mailer recounts these tales is through the eyes of Dieter. A former SS agent that is really a mid-level devil in service of Satan. Above the stories of Hitler's family are the sophisticated metaphysical world and hierarchy that sees devils and angels (called Cudgels) battle over the influence of people's souls. Dieter is both narrator and major protagonist of the novel with no clear distinction between story and story teller.

Was Hitler's father the uncle and father of his mother? Did Hitler excel at commanding boys on the school yard at a young age? These are all ideas that Mailer puts forth and leaves up to the reader to believe or discount. An extensive bibliography is given at the end of the book for readers that wish to delve further into the subject.

This book by José Saramago examines a city that is plagued by a highly-contagious epidemic. Following the title of the book, the illness that spreads among the population is a form of white Blindness that infets everyone it touches. The government quarantines the blind inside of a mental hospital that gets taken over by criminals, who subject the blind to horrific abuse. There is one witness who leads a group of seven to escape their tormentors.

Reception

Blindess has received great critical acclaim for critics around the world, and is an international best seller. It is a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, and Los Angeles Times Best Book of the Year.

Blindess is the english title for the book that was printed originally in Portuguese, and translated by Giovanni Pontiero.

To list out all the issues and events that transpire between the character would take... well an entire book.

Some critics have criticized the book for being too fanciful, while others enjoy the outlandish soap-opera nature of the plot.

In this provocative book from two Canadian philosophy professors, the argument is put forth that counter-culture, the movement that seeks to fight against the tide of increasing consumerism, is actually the biggest driver of consumerism. Andrew Potter and Joseph Heath examine the beginning of the counter-culture phenomenon with the hippies in the 60s and how it's evolved over the past 40 years to such landmark publications as Naomi Klein's No Logo and Adbusters.

Also included are additional Far Side cartoons Larson created after his retirement: 13 that appeared in the last Far Side book, Last Chapter and Worse, and six cartoons that periodically ran as a special feature in The New York Times' Science Times section as The Far Side of Science. Creator Gary Larson offers a rare glimpse into the mind of The Far Side in quirky and thoughtful introductions to each of the 14 chapters. Complaint letters, fan letters, and queries from puzzled readers appear alongside some of the more provocative or elusive panels. Actor, author, and comedian Steve Martin offers his pithy thoughts in a foreword and Gary Larson's former editor describes what it was like to be "the guy who could explain every Far Side cartoon."

Based on the Lilliput adventure from Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels", the story centres on Fig, a Lilliputian girl, who befriends and defends the giant, Gulliver. It's an adventure that will lead Fig and her giant to stride the seas, capture an enemy fleet, and win a war. And it's an adventure in which Fig will make the most amazing friend - a friend who will open up whole new world for her, on a scale she could never have imagined. Geraldine's vivid, evocative language is perfectly matched by newcomer Jago's luminously coloured illustrations, which feature dramatic perspectives and intricate detail. An exciting and invigorating new take on this most famous of stories.

He talks candidly about growing up in Depression-era Chicago, his family's poverty, and the onset of mood swings, later diagnosed as manic depression, that would haunt him throughout his life. He recalls how he boldly maneuvered his way into show business as a self-proclaimed songwriter...how, as a first-time nominee, he accepted the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer without having prepared a speech...how he directed Cary Grant and comforted Judy Garland in Hollywoodhow he worked with TV icons Barbara Eden, Patty Duke, and Larry Hagman. And, in frank and moving chapters, Sheldon reveals, for the first time, his private self: his profound personal losses and his search for happiness.

Oryx and Crake

The description on this report is copy and pasted marketing material. The description should be rewritten to provide the facts from a neutral point of view, as per ProductWiki policy and guidelines.

A stunning and provocative new novel by the internationally celebrated author of The Blind Assassin, winner of the Booker Prize

Margaret Atwood's new novel is so utterly compelling, so prescient, so relevant, so terrifyingly-all-too-likely-to-be-true, that readers may find their view of the world forever changed after reading it.

This is Margaret Atwood at the absolute peak of her powers. For readers of Oryx and Crake, nothing will ever look the same again.

The narrator of Atwood''s riveting novel calls himself Snowman. When the story opens, he is sleeping in a tree, wearing an old bedsheet, mourning the loss of his beloved Oryx and his best friend Crake, and slowly starving to death. He searches for supplies in a wasteland where insects proliferate and pigoons and wolvogs ravage the pleeblands, where ordinary people once lived, and the Compounds that sheltered the extraordinary. As he tries to piece together what has taken place, the narrative shifts to decades earlier. How did everything fall apart so quickly? Why is he left with nothing but his haunting memories? Alone except for the green-eyed Children of Crake, who think of him as a kind of monster, he explores the answers to these questions in the double journey he takes - into his own past, and back to Crake''s high-tech bubble-dome, where the Paradice Project unfolded and the world came to grief.

With breathtaking command of her shocking material, and with her customary sharp wit and dark humour, Atwood projects us into an outlandish yet wholly believable realm populated by characters who will continue to inhabit our dreams long after the last chapter. This is Margaret Atwood at the absolute peak of her powers.

"Ingenious and disturbing.. A landmark work of speculative fiction, comparable to A Clockwork Orange, Brave New World.. Atwood has surpassed herself."

-Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"Rigorous in its chilling insights and riveting in its fast-paced 'what if' dramatization, Atwood's superb novel is as brilliantly provocative as it is profoundly engaging."

-Booklist (starred review)

"Oryx and Crake is Atwood at her playful, allegorical best."

-Globe and Mail

"[Oryx and Crake is written] with a style and grace that demonstrate again just how masterful a storyteller she is. If one measure of art's power is its ability to force you to face what you would very much rather not, Oryx and Crake - the evocative tale of a nightmarish near-future - is an extraordinary work of art, one that reaffirms Atwood's place at the apex of Canadian literature."

-Maclean's

"Atwood's new masterpiece..Extraordinary.. [Atwood pulls] back the curtain on her terrible vision with such tantalizing precision, its fearsome implications don't fully reveal themselves until the final pages.. A darkly comic work of speculative fiction."

-W Magazine (U.S.)

"For all its artistic achievement, this novel poses serious questions.. Margaret Atwood is a consummate artist, yes, but her work also pricks our social and ethical consciousness. That is a rare combination, an important

achievement.."

-Globe and Mail

"Atwood's great talent for narrative has never been displayed to better effect."

-Toronto Star

"Riveting..Chesterton once wrote of the 'thousand romances that lie secreted in The Origin of Species.' Atwood has extracted one of the most hair-raising of them, and one of the most brilliant."

-Publishers Weekly

"Oryx and Crake is Atwood at her best - dark, dry, scabrously witty, yet moving and studded with flashes of pure poetry. Her gloriously inventive brave new world is all the more chilling because of the mirror it holds up to our own. Citizens, be warned."

-The Independent (U.K.)

"Oryx and Crake can hold its own against any of the 20th century's most potent dystopias - Brave New World, 1984, The Space Merchants - with regard to both dramatic impact and fertility of invention..Oryx and Crake showcases a nightmare version of the present era of globalization on a globe coming apart at its ecological seams.. It is a scathing (because bang-on) portrait of the way we live now..Majestic.."

-Washington Post

"Is there a more accomplished or versatile writer, in Canada, than Margaret Atwood?. Atwood is on top of the times - intuits them, really.. The moral questions of Oryx and Crake are already in play."

-National Post (profile)

"Oryx and Crake is a broad canvas that allows Atwood to show off her brilliant talent for satire and wordplay, as well as her considerable love and knowledge of the natural world."

-Quill & Quire

"Wonderfully vivid, and the sardonic unveiling of future history makes for a strong narrative drive."

-National Post

"Perfectly constructed, funny, and satiric. It is inventive yet prophetic, in fact, apocalyptic and weirdly feasible.. It is brilliant."

-Winnipeg Free Press

"Oryx and Crake is set just the other side of the evening news, in a future so close we can smell its stench..Atwood has outdone herself here."

-Georgia Straight

"Contemporary novelists rarely write about science or technology. Margaret Atwood tackles both - and more - in one of the year's most surprising novels."

-The Economist

My Name is Red

Black Effendi is a miniaturist artist living in 16th century Turkey. He is in love with his maternal cousin. One of his mentors has recently been murdered. He has been commissioned with writing a highly controversial book that examines the Western style of art.

Black Effendi is the protagonist in Nobel Laureate Orhan Pamuk's My Name is Red. A book that follows a love story and murder mystery against the backdrop of the waning power of the Islamic Ottoman Empire and the encroaching cultural impact of the West.

<ad></ad>

In an innovative writing style that sees the narrator change with each chapter, taking the form of a corpse, merchant, coin, and even the color red (thus the name), Pamuk examines cultural turmoil and its impact on society and humanity. Pamuk also examines the philosophical underpinnings of art and its role in society.

My Name is Red is the English name of the original Turkish title Benim Adim Kirmizi.
This is Hilma Wolitzer's long-awaited novel, her first in over 12 years. It tells the story of a disturbed middle-aged woman, whose once brilliant surgeon father is deteriorating with Alzheimer's disease, and whose youngest child may be a drug addict. To top it off, one of her long-suppressed memories is coming to the surface.
Added from www.amazon.com

The Time Traveler's Wife

A dazzling novel in the most untraditional fashion, this is the remarkable story of Henry DeTamble, a dashing, adventuresome librarian who travels involuntarily through time, and Clare Abshire, an artist whose life takes a natural sequential course. Henry and Clare's passionate love affair endures across a sea of time and captures the two lovers in an impossibly romantic trap, and it is Audrey Niffenegger's cinematic storytelling that makes the novel's unconventional chronology so vibrantly triumphant.
