$1,049.00
Released June, 2010
The Pros:Great build quality. Very fun to use and explore the world with - from 1 to 5x magnification it allows you to look at minute detail in all sorts of tiny macro subjects / objects. Capable of taking stunning macro shots.
The Cons:Limited distance to subject (macro only) - 100mm down to 41mm at 5x magnification. Very difficult to use at full magnification - high aperture and camera shake issues. Sensor / lens dust becomes an issue.
The Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro Photo is a manual-focus lens designed for close-up shooting. A opposed to other Canon macro lenses, such as the Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM, this lens is designed for macro shooting only and is not appropriate for any other use.

The focus is completely manual as well, allowing for the selection of a single subject amongst a number of potential targets. Focus varies between life-size and 5x magnification, allowing a grain of rice to fill a 35mm frame. Optional Macro Ring Lite and Macro Twin Lite accessories further enhance magnification and eliminate the need for bellows accessories. Optical quality is preserved throughout the entire focal length with a floating system. AE metering with EOS cameras is supported, and a UD element enhances image quality. A removable tripod collar is included.
