The Canon SD780 IS is an ultra-slim point-and-shoot digital camera from Canon's Digital ELPH series and is a step down from the SD960 for 2009. Like the SD960, the camera features a 12.1 megapixel sensor, records HD video in 720p and has a mini-HDMI port to allow direct connection to an HDTV. It includes a DIGIC 4 Image Processor that delivers face detection technology and has a face detection self timer for taking self portraits and group shots. The SD780 IS offers 3x optical and 4x digital zoom with Canon's optical image stabilizer technology for clear closeup shots and is designed with a 2.5" PureColor LCD display compared to the 2.8" screen and 4x optical zoom of the SD960. The camera also has an intelligent AUTO feature which analyzes the shooting conditions and selects the appropriate setting. The SD780 IS is expected to be released in March 2009 in a variety of metallic colors including red, black, gold, and silver.
