The Canon SD960 IS is a point-and-shoot digital camera from Canon's Digital ELPH series and is a step down from the SD970 for 2009. Like the SD970, the camera features a 12.1 megapixel sensor, records HD video in 720p and has a mini-HDMI port to allow direct connection to an HDTV. It includes a DIGIC 4 Image Processor that delivers face detection technology and has a face detection self timer for taking self portraits and group shots. The SD960 IS has a 28mm wide-angle lens that offers 4x optical and 4x digital zoom with Canon's optical image stabilizer technology for clear closeup shots and is designed with a 2.8" PureColor LCD display compared to the 3" screen and 5x optical zoom of the SD970. The camera also has an intelligent AUTO feature which analyzes the shooting conditions and selects the appropriate setting as well as an active display feature to easily control image playback. The SD960 IS is expected to be released in March 2009 in a variety of colors including blue, silver, pink, and gold.

Pros
- HD Video Quality is excellent! (in good light it is hard to tell the difference between this and my 1080p camcorder, in low light this is much grainier though)
- Good size. Small enough to pocket, not too small to handle and use.
- Big, clear, accurate wide-screen LCD
- HDMI Playback, best on-TV playback I have experienced!
- Wide angle lens (28-112mm equiv.), wider on the wide end than most P&S cameras
- Better than average picture quality for a compact P&S camera
- Smart/Accurate Auto-Focus and Auto Exposure (almost every picture is perfectly focused and exposed without thinking about it)
Cons
- In anything but ideal light the pictures are noisy. (reduced to 50%, 6MP most pictures are sharp enough)
- No super-fine JPEG or RAW option. JPEG files are small (~2MB) but compression artifacts are often noticeable.
