The Canon Vixia HG20 is the lower-end model of the company's Vixia Series HD camcorders. It features a 60GB hard drive (which can hold up to twenty-two hours of HD video), 12x optical zoom along with a 3.3-megapixel full HD CMOS sensor (1920x1080) and a DIGIC DVII image processor. The Vixia HG20 records at 24Mbps (which is the highest AVCHD bit rate currently available) and is equipped with Canon's SuperRange Image Stabilizer and Instant AutoFocus for reducing blur.

- unparalleled video performance
- can record video to external SD/SDHC media (cheap, capacious and easy to find)
- good amount of manual control

- noisy zoom motor
- construction quality isn't the best - plastic and hollow feeling
- bulky size
- uses a mechanical hard disk - heavier, uses more power and is more prone to physical damage than flash based storage
