The JL Audio VR525-CSi component speaker system is the smallest in the VR series. The VR series itself was designed to give car audio enthusiasts the most bang for their buck, fitting in the mid price and quality range of JL Audios evolution car speakers. The very reasonably priced package includes two 5 1/4" woofers with grilles, two 3/4" tweeters and two crossover networks. The 5 1/4" woofer has a mica-filled polypropylene cone, 1" voice coil and butyl rubber surround. The silk dome tweeter uses a neodymium magnet to keep its size at a minimum, and is ferrofluid cooled within its super-compact housing. The tweeter is mounted using JL Audio's exclusive RSR mounting system allows the speaker to be rotated into the desired position, even after installation. The included 2-way crossover networks feature a natural low-pass roll-off, 4th order high-pass circuit, adjustable tweeter output level and polyswitch tweeter protection. JL Audio also offers a 5 1/4" coaxial model in their VR series (the VR525-CXi), but the only common element between these systems is their woofers. The coaxial model features does not include an adjustable crossover, and has a 1" treated textile dome tweeter rather than the 3/4" silk dome. This tweeter is also used on all the VR component speakers and is sold independantly as the VR075-CT. The crossover used is independant to this model.

Rockford Fosgate R1693

The Rockford Fosgate R1693 is a single 6”x9”, 3-way coaxially designed speaker designed as a factory replacement speaker. Designed to provide ample bass and precise highs at a budget-friendly price, the R1692 houses a single 6x9 mica injected polypropylene cone, a single ½” Mylar balanced dome tweeter, and a in-line crossover network. Together they can handle up to 120W of power across a 48Hz-22kHz frequency range. Critics say the Rockford Fosgate R1693 is perfect for users short on cash, but still concerned with how a speaker sounds. It’s not premium in quality (a few mid-range frequencies are missing), but it’s tight and crisp.

Kicker KS690

The KS690 is a higher-end model in Kicker's mid-range KS car speaker series. A step above the entry-level DS series, the KS models feature coaxial mounting capability, Santoprene surrounds, and Kaladex-domed tweeters with ferrofluid-coated neodymium magnets and three-position attenuation switches for adjusting high-frequency response. The KS690 is one of five oval-shaped units in the series, utilizing a 1" tweeter and 6"x9" woofer to provide 90W RMS maximum power handling and a significant improvement in low-end response over the KS680. The KS6930 adds a 1" mid-range driver, boosting max. power handling to 100W.

Pioneer TS-D1720C

The Pioneer TS-D1720C are a pair of 6.75” component car-audio loudspeakers pieced together from dual-layer IMC Aramid/Basalt fibers twisted into a composite cone. Competing directly with the TS-D1320C, the TS-D1720C offers a larger frame (versus 5.25”), increased power handling (260w versus 180w), and a higher quality frequency (30Hz-33kHz versus 35Hz-33kHz). The TS-D1720C also comes equipped with both 6” x 8” and shallow mount adapters, an angled surface for customizable tweeter mounting, and a 1-1/8” soft dome tweeter. Although priced at $219.95 ($20 over the TS-D1720C and $70 over the TS-D1602R), critics cite the Pioneer TS-D1720C’s capacity for big sound, low frequency, and customization as great reasons to purchase it.

Rockford Fosgate T1652-S

The Rockford Fosgate T1652-S is a car audio 2-way component system aimed at enthusiasts. While the basic components resemble the Rockford Fosgate T152-S, upgrades have been made in most areas. The mids are now 6.5 inches in diameter, and can handle a lower 55Hz frequency response for clearer bass. The tweeters use 3 levels of attenuation, and work with the external crossovers for the clearest possible audio. In addition to OEM adapter plates for mounting in a variety of spaces, DDC tweeter mounting allows for an even clamping pressure around the perimeter of the mounting hole. This makes installation easier, and prevents possible distortion due to an uneven mount. The Flex Fit basket uses a slot mounted frame pattern, allowing fine-tuning of each speaker's mounting position and on-axis or off-axis tweeter configuration. PTC protection uses a bypass resistor in the tweeters, creating a 100% run-time without cutoffs.

Rockford Fosgate R1653

The Rockford Fosgate R1653 is a single 6.50”, 3-way speaker released as an upgrade from the R1652-S. It itself offers the same power output (40W RMS, 80W MAX) as the two 6.5” speakers in the R1652-S model. Featured is a large 6.5” mica injected polypropylene cone woofers, .5” Myler balanced dome tweeter, and an advanced tweeter high-pass crossover network. The frequency response has also been improved, as it now ranges between 48Hz and 22kHz. Critics say that though the Rockford Fosgate R1653 isn’t a premium speaker, it does provide subwoofer-like bass down to about 50Hz.

Kicker DS600

The Kicker DS600 are entry-level priced component speakers designed for car audio. These are similar to the Kicker DS5250, but have been expanded to 6 inch woofers that can output 100 watts of peak power. In addition to the extra loudness, the entire frequency response range has been expanded both for the lows and highs from 43 hz to 21 kHz. The rest of the construction is the same, with 1/2 titanium-domed tweeters and optional grilles that can be attached if protection of the speakers is needed in the installation. This set offers 4 ohms of resistance to the amp.

The Rockford Fosgate T2652-S is a car audio component system that covers a broad frequency range. This is similar to the Rockford Fosgate T252-S, but has larger 6.5 inch mids. This has allowed the entire system to be scaled up for a frequency response range of 55Hz to 22kHz, offering clearer extreme lows and highs. Up to 200 Watts of power can now be used as well, putting the system in the same range as the non-aluminum Rockford Fosgate T1652-S. Billet machined aluminum phase plugs enhance cooling, creating a more consistent sound and reducing overheating issues. Kicker KS350

The Kicker KS350 are directional component speakers for car audio systems. These are similar to the Kicker KS400, but are built to be as small as possible and lack a built-in grille. These speakers are used to upgrade from factory installed speakers, but the small size restricts the amount of bass range that they can cover. The upper range is handled by a Kaladex-domed tweeter that uses a neodymium magnet dipped in ferrofluid to keep it cool and deliver distortion-free audio. Kicker KS4100

The Kicker KS4100 are directional speakers used to upgrade car audio systems from their factory installed speakers. While these share most of the features of the Kicker KS400, these speakers follow an oval shape that makes them 4 x 10 inches. This allows an increase in power to 70 watts, and a better bass range representation with a frequency response of 45 hz to 20 kHz. No grilles are used here, allowing users who have pre-existing grilles mounted over OEM speaker holes to use those instead. As with the Kicker KS400, 1/2 inch tweeters are used that work with neodymium magnets in a ferrofluid coating for a clean, distortion-free sound.

The Kicker KS5250 is a directional component system for car audio. This is similar to the Kicker KS400, but has been built larger in order to handle more than double the power output. The woofer is 5-1/4 inches, and the tweeter has been expanded to 3/4 inches as well. The larger speaker sizes combine with a 135 Watt peak power output to create a frequency response range of 45 hz to 21 kHz, providing strong support for both the upper and lower ranges. These speakers come with grilles, allowing them to be mounted anywhere there is room with less concern for accidental damage.

Kicker KS460

The Kicker KS460 are directional component speakers designed to replace factory-installed speakers in car audio systems. These are similar to the Kicker KS4100, but have a smaller form factor of 4 by 6 inches in order to fit into tighter spaces or smaller pre-existing holes. This reduces the amount of power output to 60 watts at peak, and the smaller woofer also results in a more narrow frequency response band of 50 hz to 20 kHz. Kicker KS400

Alpine SPS-507

The Alpine SPS-507 is a set of 5” x 7”, 2-way coaxial speakers featuring an ultra-high power intake of 230W. Along with a Poly-Mica woofer and a 1” dome tweeter, each speaker also includes an ultra-low distortion Strontium magnet that reduces unnecessary noise, while enhancing clarity and bass. Note also that the unit’s tweeter is swivel-enabled and in fact able to be swiveled up to 10 degrees. And both speakers feature a shallow-mounting design, allowing for easy installations in a wide range of door panels. The only notable drawback to the Alpine SPS-507 is its poor frequency range, which unfortunately does not go under 73Hz.

Rockford Fosgate P152

The Rockford Fosgate P152 is a 2-Way full range speaker built to replace factory installed car audio speakers. This continues the increase in capacity seen in the Rockford Fosgate P142, with a larger 5.25 inch diameter bringing more power and a wider frequency range. A maximum of 80 Watts of power can be run through the speakers at frequencies from 70Hz to 22kHz, providing powerful representation of the lower ranges as well as the mids and upper ranges. Rockford Fosgate P142

The Rockford Fosgate P142 is a full-range 2-way speaker for car audio systems. This is almost the same speaker as the Rockford Fosgate P132, but the increase to a 4.0 inch diameter has allowed the maximum power output to be raised to 60 Watts. The larger size has also allowed a better bass, with a frequency response range of 100Hz to 22kHz. Otherwise the same features are present, including the Flex Fit basket and OEM adapter plate to allow installation into almost any pre-cut space. An ICC (Integrated Concealed Crossover) handles filtering, reducing the amount of external hardware required. Butyl rubber surround reduces distortion, and the construction consists of a polypropylene injection molded cone and is mineral-filled. Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) improves the effective area that the speaker is able to fill with sound.

The Kicker QS60.2 are high-powered component speakers for car audio systems. These are similar to the Kicker QS65.2, but are slightly smaller in order to accommodate 6 x 8 inch mounting adapters. The Rockford Fosgate T252-S is an aluminum car audio component system. This is similar to other component systems such as the Rockford Fosgate T1652-S, but uses aluminum componentry for a distinct tonal quality and Billet machined aluminum Phase plugs are used to enhance cooling for a consistent sound. It features 5.25 inch midrange speakers with VAST technology, increasing their effective range, and a Flex Fit Basket for easy mounting in a variety of openings. The 1.0 inch Aluminum Dome Neo-Tweeters use external crossovers that can be configured for single or dual amplifiers. The Rockford Fosgate P1652-S is a component speaker system for car audio. This is similar to the Rockford Fosgate P152-S, but features black finish and a number of changes in the overall design. A Flex Fit basket and Multi-OEM adapter plate are used for mounting, increasing the number of compatible factory speaker mounting locations. The Rockford Fosgate P1692 is a two-way full-range speaker similar to the Rockford Fosgate P1683. Besides lacking the P1683's added supertweeter (the P1683 is a three-way speaker), the main difference between the P1692 and P1683 is size (the P1692 is 6"x9" while the P1683 is 6"x8"). The P1692 and P1683 do, however, share the same installation technologies, including: Integrated Concealed Crossover and Flexfit basket designs.

The Hifonics Mercury MX6 is a 6.5” 2-way coaxial speaker built from an injection molded polypropylene woofer cone. One of two speakers in the Hifonics Mercury Speaker, the MX6 supports a peak power handling of 600w and nominal power handling of 120w. The JL Audio XR650-CSi is a 2 way component car speaker system. This system is part of the Evolution XR series and comes with two woofers, two tweeters and two cross over units. The woofers are 6.50 inches or 165 mm in diameter. They have a mineral filled polypropylene cone body, complete with a 1.0 inch or 25 mm voice coil. In addition, they have a symmetrical-roll spinder and a butyl rubber surround. The tweeters are 1.0 inches or 25 mm in diameter. The Rockford Fosgate P132 is a full range 2-way speaker. The 3.5 inch diameter uses a Flex Fit basket to fit factory speaker ports, and an OEM adapter plate is included for compatibility with a variety of standardized holes.
