JL Audio 12W1v2-4

The JL Audio 12W1v2-4 is a 12" sub-woofer available in JL Audio's W1v2 product series. The W1v2 series itself, which is the most affordable line of sub-woofers offered by JL Audio, borrows many technologies from JL's top of the line W7 and W6v2 sub-woofer line. Some of these technologies are VRC (vented reinforcement collar), Elevated Frame-Cooling and Floating Cone Attach Method. The 12W1v2-4 works best in small enclosures making it ideally suited for smaller or hard to fit vehicles. The mounting ring is removable and customizable making installation of the speaker grille-mesh simple with no extra required hardware. (Grille mesh inserts are sold seperately.) This also allows the ring to be painted to match the desired look of the car interior. The optimum power range for the 12W1v2-4 is 125-250W, and running over 300W will void the manufacturers warranty. To go over 300W, you will need to move up to the 13W1v2-4/8, or upgrade to one of JL's superior sub-woofer lines. The 12W1v2-4 has a free air resonance of 23.68 Hz with a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. However, like all the W1v2 sub-woofers, there is an 8 ohm version which is sold as the 12W1v2-8 allowing consumers to pick the sub-woofer which suits their audio set-up.

Features:

Free Air Resonance (Fs): 23.68 Hz

The JL Audio 12W1v2-8 is a 12" sub-woofer available in JL Audio's W1v2 product series. The 12W1v2-8 works best in small enclosures making it ideally suited for smaller or hard to fit vehicles. The mounting ring is removable and customizable making installation of the speaker grille-mesh simple with no extra required hardware. (Grille mesh inserts are sold seperately.) This also allows the ring to be painted to match the desired look of the car interior. The optimum power range for the 12W1v2-8 is 125-250W, and running over 300W will void the manufacturers warranty. To go over 300W, you will need to move up to the 13W1v2-4/8, or upgrade to one of JL's superior sub-woofer lines. The 12W1v2-8 has a free air resonance of 24.98 Hz with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms. However, like all the W1v2 sub-woofers, there is a 4 ohm version which is sold as the 12W1v2-4 allowing consumers to pick the sub-woofer which suits their audio set-up.

This series provides models in 8, 10, 12 and 13 inches. The core design is consistent across the product line. The first number represents the size in inches for the surface area of the speaker. The 13W7 offers a free air resonance of 23.5 Hz and a thermal power handling of 1,500 Watts, which is the highest offered in this product range. The 13W7 offers between 450 to 1,500 watts of power. Operation over 1,500 watts is not recommended for this model and voids the warranty. If you need less power, try the 12W7, which has a range of 250 W to 1,000 Watts or the 10W7, which has a range of 125 to 500 watts. A detailed product manual is included with the subwoofer, along with a visual installation guide. Online tutorials provide step by step instructions on the wiring and installation of the subwoofer.

The 122.7W changes pace from the 102.7W and 104.7W by including a 12” subwoofer (versus 10”). The 122.7W also sports a reduced frequency of 18-250Hz (versus 25-400Hz) and an increased sensitivity of 92dB (versus 87/89dB). The 122.7W, however, maintains its predecessors 350w nominal power handling and 1400w peak power handling. Similar to the 102.7W, the 122.7W features includes a selectable impedance of 1 or 4 ohms. In addition, the 122.7W offers 3” voice coils for improved thermal power handling, a vented polepiece that reduces air compression, and a medium Q design developed for optimal sound performance. The Infinity KAPPA 122.7W is priced at $199.99, $20 over the 102.7W and 104.7W.

The fourth model in the KAPPA series, the 12VQ is a slight downgrade from the 12DVQ. Whereas the 12DVQ offered dual 3” voice coils and a 92dB sensitivity, the 12VQ offers only one 3” voice coil and an 89dB sensitivity. The 12VQ, however, maintains the 12DVQ’s 400w nominal power handling and 1600 peak power handling, not to mention its 23Hz-400Hz frequency and 8ohm impendence. In addition, the 12VQ features a variable Q design that offers higher-quality and more stable sound, and a vented polepiece/basket that reduces mechanical noise. Priced at $189.99, the Infinity KAPPA PERFECT 12VQ is cited as being a slightly more affordable subwoofer than the $199.99 12DVQ, but still possessing almost the exact same functionality and capability.

JL Audio 13W1v2-4

The 13.5" JL Audio 13W1v2-4 is the largest sub-woofer available in JL Audio's W1v2 product series. The 13W1v2-4 works best in small enclosures making it ideally suited for smaller or hard to fit vehicles. The mounting ring is removable and customizable making installation of the speaker grille-mesh simple with no extra required hardware. (Grille mesh inserts are sold seperately.) This also allows the ring to be painted to match the desired look of the car interior. The optimum power range for the 13W1v2-4 is 125-250W, and running over 350W will void the manufacturers warranty. To go over 350W, you will need to upgrade to one of JL's superior sub-woofer lines. The 13W1v2-4 has a free air resonance of 20.9 Hz with a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. However, like all the W1v2 sub-woofers, there is an 8 ohm version which is sold as the 13W1v2-8 allowing consumers to pick the sub-woofer which suits their audio set-up.

Unlike the first four amplifiers in the KAPPA series, the 102.7W ditches their variable Q design in favor of a medium Q design developed to perform well in sealed, vented, or bandpass enclosures. The 102.7W also comes equipped with a Neodymium motor with an aluminum heatsink that provides additional magnetic energy while also reducing overall weight. The 102.7W, however, supports a reduced nominal power handling of 350w and peak power handling of 1400w. The Infinity KAPPA 102.7W is priced at $179.95, $10-$20 less than the 12DVQ/VQ, and $10-$20 greater than the 10DVQ/VQ.

It is a small 10" subwoofer but gives the owner a large 3000 watts of maximum power handling with continuous 1000 watts RMS. It differs from its sister model, the JVC CS-SW7240, by being more powerful, smaller, and slightly more expensive. It uses dual 2 ohm voice coils and a rapid-fire impedence selector terminal that has fuse protection, a neccessary feature to increase the durability of the product.
JL Audio 13W1v2-8

The 13.5" JL Audio 13W1v2-8 is the largest sub-woofer available in JL Audio's W1v2 product series. The 13W1v2-8 works best in small enclosures making it ideally suited for smaller or hard to fit vehicles. The mounting ring is removable and customizable making installation of the speaker grille-mesh simple with no extra required hardware. (Grille mesh inserts are sold seperately.) This also allows the ring to be painted to match the desired look of the car interior. The optimum power range for the 13W1v2-8 is 125-250W, and running over 350W will void the manufacturers warranty. To go over 350W, you will need to upgrade to one of JL's superior sub-woofer lines. The 13W1v2-8 has a free air resonance of 21.9 Hz with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms. However, like all the W1v2 sub-woofers, there is a 4 ohm version which is sold as the 13W1v2-4 allowing consumers to pick the sub-woofer which suits their audio set-up.

Features:

Free Air Resonance (Fs): 21.9 Hz

Electrical “Q” (Qes): 0.462

Mechanical “Q” (Qms): 6.774

Effective Piston Area (Sd): 105.774 sq. in. / 0.0682 sq. m.

DC Resistance (Re): 6.803 ohm

Nominal Impedance (Znom): 8 ohm

Thermal Power Handling (Pt): 350W

One of two woofers in the Pentagon series, the PLPNW10 is in fact the only 10” pentagon woofer that Pyle Audio offers. In addition, although the 1000w PLPNW10 is trumped in power by both the 1200w PLSQ10D and the 1400w PLCHW10, it is actually priced more expensively at $98.40 (versus $97.50, $90.00). This is due primarily to the PLPNW10’s unique pentagon shape designed to better distribute sound along its custom metal stamped basket and Butyl rubber surround. The Pyle Audio PLPNW10 also features a 2” hi-temp Kapton voice coil, an 80 oz hi-density Barium Ferrite magnet, and a 30-2kHz frequency response.

The Infinity REF1252W is a dual voice coil 12” subwoofer constructed out of a high-efficiency, lightweight polypropylene woofer cone developed for improved sound output. The third model in the REFERENCE series, the REF1252W is a slight upgrade from the REF1250W. Primarily, the dual voice coil REF1252W offers a selectable impedance of 2 or 8 ohms, versus the single voice coil REF1250W’s static 2 ohms. The REF1252W, however, features the REF1250W’s nominal power handling of 300w, peak power handling of 1200w, frequency response of 23Hz-400Hz, and sensitivity @ 2.83V/1m of 93dB. The REF1252W also includes vented polepieces that provide additional cooling of the motor structure, a “unique” in-board motor structure that reduces overall mounting depth, and large-roll rubber surrounds for optimized cone suspension. The Infinity REF1252W is priced at $74.99, exactly $2 over its predecessor, the REF1250W.

The Infinity REF850W is a 8” subwoofer composed out of a high-efficiency and lighweight polypropylene woofer cone designed for higher sound output from a reduced amplifier power. A drastic downgrade from the Infinity KAPPA and Infinity BASSLINK 10”/12” models, the REF850W (from the Infinity Reference series) does not include the BASSLINK’s built-in amplifier. In addition, it offers an inferior frequency of 30Hz-400Hz (versus the KAPPA 10dvq/vq and 12dvq/vq’s 25Hz-400Hz) and a reduced sensitivity of 91dB (versus the KAPPA 12DVQ and 122.7W’s 92dB). The REF850W also features large-roll rubber surrounds that trim downs on distortion and ensures a tighter bass, an in-board motor structure that reduces overall mounting depth, and a vented polepiece that offers additional cooling. Priced at $64.99, the Infinity REF850W is a massive savings from its more expensive, albeit formidable counterparts in the BASSLINK and KAPPA series.

A slight upgrade from the single voice coil REF1050W, the REF1052W offers a selectable impedance of 2 or 8 ohms (versus the REF1050’s static 4 ohms). The REF1052W, however, does feature the REF1050W’s 250w nominal power handling, 1000w peak power handling, 25-Hz-400Hz frequency response, and 91dB sensitivity. The REF1052W also includes vented polepieces for greater thermal power handling, large-roll rubber surrounds that absorb distortion, and an in-board motor structure that allows the 1052w to work well in both vented and small sealed enclosures. Priced at $72.99, the Infinity REF1052W is only $3 more expensive than the REF1050W.
