The Pyle Audio PLW12RD are a pair of 12” subwoofers constructed from a red CD wace electro-plated cone. The second and last woofer in the Red Label series, the PLW12RD is a red version of the PLW12BL from the Blue Label series. Both speakers support up to 800w of peak power output and 4 Ohms of impedance, although it should be noted that the PLW12RD utilizes a slightly inferior sensitivity of 85.5dB versus 86.7dB. In addition, the PLW12RD includes similar features such as a 2” hi-temp Kapton voice coil, a wife Butyl rubber surround, and a bumped/vented extended pole piece. Much like its peer, the PLW12RD also competes with the formidable 1200w PLBW124, 2400w PLCHW12, and the whopping 3200w PLD12WD. The Pyle Audio PLW12RD is priced at $57.50, the same price as the PLW12BL, but approximately $50-$100 more affordable than their superior competitors.

The Pyle Audio PLW10RD are a pair of 10” subwoofers built from a red CD wave electro-plated Polypropylene cone. The first model in the Red Label series, the PLW10RD is in fact an exact duplicate of the PLW12BL from the Blue Label series. The only difference between the two models is that the PLW10RD is red versus blue. The PLW10RD maintains all of the PLW12BL’s specifications such as a 300w nominal power output, 600w peak power output, and 87.7dB sensitivity. In addition, both models feature a 1.5” hi-temp Kapton voice coil, a bumped/vented extended pole piece, and a wide Butyl rubber surround. The PLW10RD also competes with the much more powerful 1000w PLPNW10, 1200w PLSQ10D, and 1400w PLCHW10. The Pyle Audio PLW10RD is priced at $36.00, the same as the PLW12BL, but approximately $50 less expensive than its formidable aforementioned competitors.

The Pyle Audio PLPNW10 are a pair of 10” pentagon-shaped DVC subwoofers built from a special Poly injected cone. One of two woofers in the Pentagon series, the PLPNW10 is in fact the only 10” pentagon woofer that Pyle Audio offers. In addition, although the 1000w PLPNW10 is trumped in power by both the 1200w PLSQ10D and the 1400w PLCHW10, it is actually priced more expensively at $98.40 (versus $97.50, $90.00). This is due primarily to the PLPNW10’s unique pentagon shape designed to better distribute sound along its custom metal stamped basket and Butyl rubber surround. The Pyle Audio PLPNW10 also features a 2” hi-temp Kapton voice coil, an 80 oz hi-density Barium Ferrite magnet, and a 30-2kHz frequency response.

The JL Audio 8W7 is an 8" audio subwoofer, in the W7 product series. This series provides models in 8, 10, 12 and 13 inches. The core design is consistent across the product line. The first number represents the size in inches for the surface area of the speaker. The 8W7 offers a free air resonance of 35.2 Hz and a thermal power handling of 500 W, the lowest in the series. The 8W7 offers between 125 to 500 watts of power. Operation over 500 watts is not recommended for this model and voids the warranty. To go up to 750 Watts, try the 10W7 model, for 1,000 Watts the 12W7 model and for 1,500 Watts, look at the 13W7 model. The Kicker CompVR CVR15 subwoofer is a round 15 inch unit that is the most powerful, the largest, and most expensive of its kind. With a mounting depth of 8-1/8 inches and a mounting cutout of 13-7/8 the CompVR CVR15 has the capability to pump out 1000/500 watts peak/RMS and sustain a sensitivity of 89.1 dv 1w/1m. Its frequency response is in line with the series at 25-500 Hz and it boasts some of the same features, such as a ribbed Santoprene surround to add to the strength of the structure, an injection molded cone, 360 back bracing, dual voice coils, an efficient top-plate design, a high temperature wire, spring loaded push terminals, and perimeter venting. Since the CompVR CVR15 is the highest power member of its series it is also the most expensive. That expense might be worth it for a large subwoofer with a large sound.

The Kicker CompVT CVT8 is a 8 inch subwoofer in the CompVT line. It is on the smaller end of the series, meaning that it has less power and can be bought for a cheaper price. It has a mounting depth of 3-3/8 inches and a mounting cutout of 7-1/16 inches. The power is reduced from the larger models down to 400/200 watts peak/RMS. The frequency response is uniform for the line, 25Hz-350Hz. The CompVT CVT8 includes all of the standard features for the series: a injection-molded cone, four-layer voice coil, Spiralead tinsel-led technology, perimeter venting, high-temp coil wire, Uniplate backplate and pole, double-stitching, logo trim ring around basket's outer edges, 360-degree back bracing, and ribbed Santoprene surround. This model is pretty good for a consumer who wants a smaller subwoofer but doesn't want to sacrifice as much power as the smaller CVT65 requires.

The Infinity KAPPA PERFECT 12VQ is a 12” die-cast subwoofer with a magnesium-woofer cone and a single four-ohm voice coil. The fourth model in the KAPPA series, the 12VQ is a slight downgrade from the 12DVQ. Whereas the 12DVQ offered dual 3” voice coils and a 92dB sensitivity, the 12VQ offers only one 3” voice coil and an 89dB sensitivity. The 12VQ, however, maintains the 12DVQ’s 400w nominal power handling and 1600 peak power handling, not to mention its 23Hz-400Hz frequency and 8ohm impendence. In addition, the 12VQ features a variable Q design that offers higher-quality and more stable sound, and a vented polepiece/basket that reduces mechanical noise. Priced at $189.99, the Infinity KAPPA PERFECT 12VQ is cited as being a slightly more affordable subwoofer than the $199.99 12DVQ, but still possessing almost the exact same functionality and capability.
