"Nintendo only backed out of the CD-Rom deal because they had just found out the deal they signed with Sony in 1988 regarding the SNES sound chip, the SPC700, also stipulated that all royalties from CD-Rom software would be Sony's. To quote a famous statement regarding that situation, "Sony had Nintendo by the balls..."."
