The Olympus S713 — also known as the Pearlcoder S713 — is Olympus’s top cassette recorder. It features a variable control voice actuator for hands-free recording; it activates recording as soon as the microphone senses sound. And it offers dual tape speeds for up to three hours of recording on a conventional 90-minute tape. Included also is a built-in microphone that clearly captures audio; a built-in speaker for playback anytime and anywhere; and external jacks for connecting an earphone, a secondary microphone, or an external power supply. In fact, users can either power the unit by an AC outlet OR with two AA batteries. One of the more notable features of the S713 is its tape counter, which lets users quickly locate previously-recorded passages. There’s also a cue/review function for fast, easy message monitoring/correcting.

It’s similar to the S701 and S702, but adds along a few convenience-related features. Perhaps the most notable upgrade is the fact that the S711 can be powered by both batteries AND a power outlet. And like its predecessors, this recorder can handle dual speeds (2.4cm/sec & 1.2cm/sec), with the slower speed allowing for up to 180 minutes on an MC-90 tape. Included also with the unit is a built-in microphone that clearly captures audio, as well as a built-in speaker for playback anywhere and anytime. The Sony TCM-200DV is a Cassette Recorder with Dual Power Source released in 2006. It has a double recording time feature so that users can record for 180 minutes on a 90 minute tape. It also has a useful feature called voice operated recording, where it only records if there is audible sound, and pauses when there is no sound (this feature alone could justify its $15 increase in price over the Sony TCM-150 Cassette Recorder). It also has the clear voice feature that results in lower distortion with a high power amplifier output (350mW). It also has all the typical features one would expect from a practical voice recorder: built in mic, battery indicator, large front speaker, and playback speed control.
