It was an easier purchasing decision then because the 532H was half, or less, the price of the top Samsung, Sony, etc., models. The price gap has narrowed so the decision may be a bit more difficult but if you need an economical TV in a decent size I will recommend this model. It does not have the specs of the top models so I guess it may come down to price for you. The performance has been good for me, with no problems, but not spectacular. Note that it does not play well with a Harmony remote: volume adjusts in separate pushes of the button, not a continuous up or down, and it has a little trouble switching inputs: it counts through the inputs to reach the one you want rather than jumping straight to the correct input so be ready with the Help button in case it stops on the wrong input."

2. commented on Samsung HL-T6187S - November 22, 2007 at 12:39 am

"My decision was between the Mitsubishi WD-65833 and the Samsung HL-T6187S. While the Mitsu is one of the most highly rated DLP sets ever, I was fascinated with the LED idea. While most DLP TV's are driven by a very bright lightbulb this Samsung series is lit up with LED lights. In theory, these will last a heck of a lot longer and eliminate the most common complaint people have about DLP TV's: replacing the bulb on a fairly regular basis. I am running cable TV (standard def and HD), DVD, HD-DVD, AppleTV and a Nintendo Wii through it and everything looks wonderful. Sports and fast motion stuff looks better than on my older LCD TV thanks to the 120hz refresh rate. Colors are vivid without being overly bright and the picture is crystal clear. Best of all, DLP TV in this size is less than half the price and by waiting for the second generation of LED, my belief is that this eliminates any of the complaints people have had in the past about DLP. Please note that you should set up this TV per the Calibration thread at AVSForum (I used Avical's settings). This will close the iris and reduce the "eye-watering glare" reviewers have mentioned. While it may not be wall-mountable like an LCD it is lightweight, thin, pleasing to the eye in that very little except screen is showing and gives a gorgeous picture. Those into "green" usage will be happy that it uses almost no power in standby mode. If I find something bad about this TV, I will let you all know."

3. commented on Toshiba HD-A3 - November 22, 2007 at 12:11 am

""that much money"? This player is about as much as a good upconverting DVD player (I'm an Oppo fan) with the bonus of free HD-DVD's (ten, for me). It does a very good job of upconverting and I needed an upconverter anyway for my new 61" 1080p TV. Regular DVD's look sharp and clean. This one fits the bill for what I need and I get the HD benefit, basically for free. I don't see any downside here. The player can certainly stand on it's own merits. Please keep in mind that you are watching an entry level model and you will, I think, be very happy with the results. Be sure to perform firmware updates for best results."
