Does anyone know how to silently change ring styles with the phone closed? It can be a nuisance if you want to silence the phone and you don't want to make sound to do it.

I recommend holding it in your right hand and looking inconspicuous while holding it behind a co-worker. Then press the top left button once (which does make a quick sound), and the bottom left button until it is on silent. Press the top left button again, and sit smuggly with you phone on silent while your boss looks angrily at your innocent co-worker... But that's just me...

Thanks for the advice. The only problem that I am my own boss. I guess I could just do it in public places like at the movies during a really dramatic scene. Perhaps Brokeback Mountain?

Hmm... Well in that case I guess you can wrap your hand tightly around the base of the phone prior to pressing the top left button. It doesn' make it silent, but it muffles it quite a bit... If are watching a touching scene in Brokeback Mountain just be careful about... Oh, nevermind, I'll take the high road and not make a joke about that... It's actually a very good movie...

I figured out a way to do it. Instead of changing the ring style using the external buttons, go in to settings and ring styles and change it there.
Simple.

The caveat is that you have to make sure that your settings are already configured for silent key-presses. Otherwise you're going to produce a bunch of beeps and boops in the process of of getting to the settings menu. But I hate the beeps and boops anyway, so all my keypresses are silent, meaning I can turn off my ringer just fine in case I forget to before a particular event. Especially since the damn thing makes a ridiculously loud noise when I use the side button.. wow, horrible design.

On a SLVR, which I think is the same as RAZR, all you need to do is press and hold the # key. This will change it to Vibrate mode. Press and hold it again and it swithes back.

I just tried that and it didn't work. Maybe that can happen with an updated firmware, mine is pretty old. And I think the problem of key-press sounds might apply if you haven't already set keypresses to be silent. Honestly, I don't know whose smart idea it was to make the beeping so damn loud, WHY make this ridiculous loud beep when you want to change styles? It makes no sense.
