Centro 3000

The Centro 3000 (model # 50212) is a value-priced stainless steel BBQ grill with 3 main burners and 1 side burner. This product is only distributed by Canadian Tire in Canada. It has a large rated heating capacity of 42,600 BTU in the main cooking surface and 10,000 BTU on the side burner. It features a 2-piece porcelain-coated cast iron cooking grill with a surface area of 560 sq-in. There is also a 170 sq-in. steel warming grill. The main unit has a 3 stainless steel "U-shaped" burners, and the side-burner can be used to grill side-dishes. All four burners are independently controlled by plastic knobs. This product was made by a Chinese manufacturer and branded as such when brought to Canada by Canadian Tire.

Details

The lid is made of stainless steel, while the remainder of the barbecue is made of steel and plastic. The Centro 3000 has dimensions are 65.77" x 48.65" x 26.08" and it weighs a total of 172 lbs. (minus the gas tank). It is available in both propane and natural gas versions for CAN$399.99 and CAN$449.99 respectively. In the case of the propane version, the tank sits hidden below the grill behind 2 black steel doors. It includes a temperature gauge on the lid, and a electronic-pulse ignition (includes 1 AA battery).

I picked up this BBQ at a grand opening at a Canadian Tire in Waterloo this weekend for CAN$299. 100 bucks off, not a bad deal. Many people who bought this deal were surprised to find that there lids and other parts were damaged in shipping. Not me, though :) I cooked up some burgers last night, and its a great product so far. I have a tough time shelling out a grand for a BBQ. This was a deal that was too good to pass up.

Centro then said they would send parts, but only sent two plastic knobs, not the gas valves. I?m buying a Weber this week to replace the Centro, and contacting CSA on this, passing the make, model and photos over. Centro is very, very dangerous.

There is a warning, and instruction on how do disassamble, clean and reassemble. I did this twice a year, every year, but still had this flashback. The dissassembly is from underneath and above, not easily doable, but the darn thing still melted. I checked the Weber out closely and the dissassembly and cleaning is much more straightforward and lends itself to more frequent cleaning.

I purchased my Centro 4800 NG about a year ago. I've had heat issues since day one and have gone online to read reviews to see if I can solve this problem. This heat issue seems to be the most common issue.

I got no help from Centro and once they told me to replace the thermostat which was incorrect and a way to brush me off.

Well the other day I looked over my BBQ and practically ripped it apart to see if I did something wrong and guess what....I didn't do anything wrong but found out that the problem is. Something that no one has been able to figure out including Centro.

Here's the issue. Loss of heat from the back of the BBQ!! What do I mean? Turn your BBQ around and look at the gap between the lid and the back plate. There is a good 5-6 inch gap which causes great heat loss. Not only that but the back of the base has no cover and wind blows from underneath. So what did I do to test this out?

I took a long piece of aluminum foil and made a make-shift back plate....enough to cover the gap and guess what? My BBQ went from a top end of 350 degrees to an outstanding 475 degrees! And that's only with the aluminum foil.

Well I be heading to the hardware store tomorrow to buy some aluminum. I'll use one piece to cover the gap in the lid and one for the back of the base.

Bottom-line....the less air gets in the more heat you'll have.

I found a direct link from a Canadian supplier of Centro replacement parts for the Centro 3000. I own this grill, and I looked at the left side of the grill and found the model # 50212.

When we took the cover off last week, all the racks, burners and sides of the cooking area have rusted. The sides are so bad, that the rust is flaking off and showing the interior being rusted also. I have never been so dissatisfied with a product EVER. Is there any way to be recompensated for this?"
