"The TV processes the signal changing it to 1080p, this improves picture quality but it's not as good as a true 1080p source. On a 1080p TV you have 1920x1080 pixels that make up the image, with out upscaling the image is basically just blown up and lacks detail. Upscaling converts the signal to 1080p and more

"Rumor is the KDL-40Z4100 is to release sometime in the next 40 days. Rumored price for the 40" is $1999.99 Dynamic Contrast Ratio is rumored to be 30,000:1 while Contrast Ratio is suppose to be 3,000:1 meaning it's better then the XBR4 and XBR5"

Would the upscaled Standard definition be condidered HD? Or is it just a better looking SD?

The TV processes the signal changing it to 1080p, this improves picture quality but it's not as good as a true 1080p source.

On a 1080p TV you have 1920x1080 pixels that make up the image, with out upscaling the image is basically just blown up and lacks detail. Upscaling converts the signal to 1080p and tries to preserve image quality.

For example:

DVD is 480p
Blu-ray is 1080p

upscaling the 480p dvd signal to 1080p will make it look better then not upscaling. But it will never look as good as the blu-ray.

For the Vizio VP505XVT, it is said that "the processor can also upscale standard definition images to full 1080p". What does that mean? Does that mean that when ever I watch TV in standard definition that the picture quality qill automatically be upgraded to 1080P?
