Coby Kyros MID7015

$170.00 Released November, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Battery life is pretty good (~7 hours while web surfing). Much cheaper than an iPad or Galaxy Tab. Faster, more responsive, better touchscreen, better battery than cheap Chinese tablets.

The Cons:"Wakes up" every few minutes when in standby mode. No Android Market without hacking. No volume button.

The Coby Kyros MID7015 is one of two bare-minimum, entry-level touchscreen tablets (MID7005, MID7015) featuring the Android 2.1 (Éclair) OS. In particular, the weaker MID7015 inherits its sibling's 7" resistive touchscreen display, WiFi connectivity, a 1080p-compatible HDMI output, and 4GB of internal memory.

Where to Buy

The difference is that it doesn't have an attached leather case. Plus memory expansion has been limited to just 16GB. It is however more lightweight (200g) and portable. Plus the ARM1176 processor has been replaced with a Telechips TTC8902 one, though both are 800MHz, which means the change is negligible. Like its counterpart, the Coby Kyros MID7015 is much more like an e-reader than it is a tablet.

Additional Information

Despite a weak processor, the Coby Kyros MID7015 and its sibling include two important apps: Aldiko E-Book and AppsLib. The former provides access to eBooks, while the latter provides access to an Apps marketplace.

RC748: #coby_kyros_mid7015 Bought one of these and I think they are pretty good for the money paid (it's not an iPad). I did have a hard time finding a case for it. However, found a small company that makes a pretty good sleeve for this unit and sells them for only $8.95 with free freight at www.nuvo-tek.com.

By the same token, if anyone knows of where I can buy a case (not a sleeve) that is a good fit for the this Kyros unit, please let me know.

Thanks Feb 4, 11
