"I am about to purchase a new receiver and I am at a crossroads. I want a receiver with Dolby True HD but I have had mixed reviews on this receiver. I have a PS3 and an HD DVD player. What is your opinion of this receiver, and how did you decide on it? Thanks Codeman"

I have the same equipment that you have strangely enough. For the PS3 you don't need to worry, all the processing takes place on the PS3 so even True HD doesn't matter. I chose the SR606 because of cost (you can currently get this at 6ave.com with codes for $350). The coolest feature is the ability through HDMI to read changes to the TV volume and automatically adjust the receiver volume. The only downside of this receiver is upconvert to only 1080i; but hey, its only going to look so good anyway.
