Componibili Compartment System
Why is it the 1960's seemed to have more futuristic looking furniture than the furniture that is designed today? The Componibili compartment system has been in production since 1969 and after more than 30 years, it still looks like it belongs on a spaceship. The components are made of single encased shelves with a retractable door. Each unit can then be stacked on top of the other, without the need for screws or fastening since they fit together by design. The units can be also be bought as a set of 2 or 3 already completed systems. The shelves are made of durable plastic and come in either 12.5 inch or 16.5 inch diameters, as well as square versions.

Details
The Componibili system was designed by Anna Castelli Ferrieri, Italy's first female (licensed) architect. Ferrieri enjoyed using materials in different ways and was one of the primary architects who employed plastic as a medium for furniture. As a designer for Kartell, one of the leading manufacturers of modern furniture, the Componibli continues to be a favourite among the crowd who enjoys modular furniture with a futuristic appeal.
