Thermaltake Slim X3

Thermaltake's Slim X3 is a heat sink intended for use with Intel processing units, specifically with socket LGA1156 and LGA775 (this covers a wide range of processors, from Celeron to Core i5 - check the manufacturer page for full compatibility). It has an aluminum fin base to disperse heat, as well as two copper heat pipes, in conjunction with an 80mm fan. One main feature of this model is its low profile, as its thickness is just 36mm. This makes it the thinnest of Thermaltake's heat sinks for these socket types, and more amenable for use in slim computer cases. It has a mid-range price, and falls roughly in the middle of Thermaltake's CPU cooling lineup. Installation is relatively simple, requiring four screws.

Some thermal compound (grease) is included.

Cooler can be mounted in 4 orientations (the direction where the air flow depends on this). For example you can point it to the top (hot air is naturally traveling up) or to the back of your case (where another cooler might be pulling hot air out of the box).

3 heat-pipes are transfering the heat from CPU to the ribs that are mounted at some angle. Included fan is spinning at about 1500 RPM. The fan has 3 pins (no support for pulse-width speed control).

Some test of the efficiency:

With stock cooler and grease I got temperature 37-43 Celcius degree. It was lowered to 32-38 Celcius degree when used with better grease and overclocked CPU. Temperature in my case is 30-35 Celcius degree. Temperatures given in medium CPU stress (both cores). CPU used is E7400 @2800 MHz (overclocked to 3500 MHz)

The V1 is built with an all copper construction (for heat conductivity and dissipation) and hosts a structure of four, long heat-pipes through four different channels. It features a side-flow design to maximize airflow and accelerate air speed without over-exerting the built-in fan (VR fan with 16dBA at minimum speed). The Thermaltake V1's opening design allows for multi air-intake which helps to dissipate surplus heat build-up.
