Dell Inspiron 531

The Dell Inspiron 531 is one of several models of mainstream consumer PCs in Dell's streamlined product lineup. The Inspiron line replaces the older Dimension lineup, with few models. The 531 is the AMD-based, mini-tower model in the lineup, with the 530 representing it's Intel counterpart. For each of these models, there are respective slimline versions with the 531s and 530s. The middle of the road configuration for this desktop PC includes an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5000+ and runs about $650 with the inclusion of a 19" LCD monitor.

My brother just order one these last night from dell.ca on my recommendation. It looks like a very good deal, and is much cheaper than if you were to build the computer from components. I think the AMD version hits the sweet spot of price and performance. He got the upgraded 20" Dell monitor with 2 ms response time. My only gripe is the mandatory inclusion of Vista.

I just ordered this computer and i agree the main gripe is the mandatory Vista. I hope i don't make those Mac commercials come true and revert back to my trusty XP!! However, I am very pumped to get this rockin' comp. Much better than my current Commodore 64 I hope! Haha.

Annoying. Dell dropped the AMD-based Inspiron 531 in favor of the more expensive 530 Intel-based systems. Probably still a good buy, but I liked having that choice..not to mention the $avings.
