With beautiful mahogany cups, the luxury AH-D5000 was Denon's flagship headphone until it was replaced by the AH-D7000 in August 2008. Often overlooked by Headphone enthusiasts due to it's poor price/performance ratio and build quality, the D5000 has recently become popular due to several new modification procedures done by head-fi's Markl. With these modifications the headphone is transformed, reducing vibration, refining bass, and allowing the slightly recessed middle and high frequencies to shine through, creating a listening experience that some claim match the famous Sony MDR-R10. While closed, the large body and enormous price tag make the AH-D5000 a poor choice for travel or listening on the go. Rather, it is much better suited for use in a quieter environment for things such as gaming, watching tv or listening to music.
