Audyssey RoomAuto EQ gives a graphical interface of what frequency bands it adjusts to achieve "corrected sound". (Not all competing receivers do this)
+1agreedisagree

Great video processing of analog standard definition sources to 1080P output (HDMI out only of course)
+1agreedisagree

Audyssey EQ is quite effective in "correcting" speaker/room sound.

Small bug that affects input display signal in DTS-MA 7.1 (reads it as 5.1 but still decodes in 7.1). Can be fixed by sending unit off to Denon for a firmware update.
+1agreedisagree

Only 2 HDMI inputs (newer model AVR-989 does offer 4)
+1agreedisagree

Does not blend on screen menu over video sources through the HDMI output. (Switches from video source to menu instead)
+1agreedisagree

Not a good user interface.

The AVR-988 is the big box version of the AVR-2808CI with only minor differences. The confusing numbering is basically a marketing trick to avoid price matching. Booh!

The user manual for this receiver is written so poorly that it is totally useless. Good luck without it setting up the device.

The AVR-988 is a great receiver. May not be as powerful as some in this price range but has plenty of power with a sophisticated sound quality that can only come from Denon. This receiver is not for the home theater novice but experienced users can use the manual to help guide you through the new features. Any questions can be fowarded to Denon's great customer service techs and they will help you.

I must be the first one to buy this receiver when it is released. I am very happy with the receiver. Had trouble figuring out the user interface.
