Denon S-5BD

$1,800.00 Released March, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Looks great once installed--slick and modern. Straightforward, easy-to-use interface. Proprietary, shock-resistant design ensures smooth Blu-ray/DVD performance uninterrupted by uneven roads.

The Cons:Loading up a Blu-ray OR DVD takes a really long time. Becomes very unresponsive while playing a DVD/Blu-ray. Really pricey considering its sluggish overall performance.

The Denon S-5BD is a high-end, very expensive 5.1 channel receiver with an integrated Blu-ray player. The receiver is compatible with 5.1 speaker systems right from the start but can be used with 7.1 systems with the use of preouts for the extra channels.

For sound quality the system utilizes two features from Dolby: Dolby TrueHD, and support for Dolby Pro Logic IIz. The blu-ray player included with the receiver deck is capable of true, full HD resolutions and can upscale lower definitions closer to 1080p for higher quality video displays from standard DVDs. The system is also able to connect online with the use of an Ethernet port in order to download system updates, and use BD Live, an interactive, online program included in some blu-ray discs.
