The DTVPal by Dish Network is a DTV to analog converter box that is used to allow analog TVs to continue to receive over-the-air transmissions in the U.S. after the Digital Transition completes on February 17th, 2009. On that date, all over-the-air TV transmissions become digital-only. The DTVPal converts the digital signal to an analog signal so that analog TVs can continue to be used to watch TV.

Cons
- If the unit is on for too long it will freeze, starting with the video, then the audio, after it is totally locked it will power off for about 20 seconds, then go through a full restart, including downloading the program guide. This means that you will be without use of the unit for about 5 minutes, a disaster when you are recording from the unit. If you don't catch it quick enough when it starts to lock up you can NOT force it to recycle.
- Randomly turns itself on
- can't force the program guide to download, it will do it when it turns on or not, according to it's choice
- can't set the time, and it loses time & gives different times when on different channels

- There are only 5 timers, the timer display does not show the start time, & the unit doesn't shut off when the timer ends. The worst thing about the timers is that they don't always turn the unit on!!!
