Dopies are trying to oust the Crocs market for ubiquitous, yet not-quite-sure-why popularity. The Dopie sandal tries to break the mold of traditional sandals by foregoing the strap. Instead, by using light material and a rigid sole, a 'nipple' was created for the toes which would be enough to hold the shoe onto the foot. After a lot of prototypes and serious studying of ancient examples from Tibet, the Dopie was formed. The toe-hold is made of a soft foam for comfort while the rest of the sole is made from EVA plastic and rubber. An optional strap comes with the shoe in case you're doing an activity that might cause your shoe to fall off (roller coasters, skateboarding, etc.) They're available in a variety of colors.

Nothing is as ugly as crocs, especially these. I like to wear the least I can, so these will do nicely, thanks.

More information

The original Dopie was designed by Matthew Harrison while studying at the Royal College of Art in London, England. He created the Dopie knowing people would be thrown by their lack of straps, but he remains confident that because of the toe-hold, straps are an unnecessary evil.

I realize these shoes aren't really that attractive, but I'm curious to see what they feel like.

Riiiiiight....Just like I'm curious what it feels like to step in dog sh.. These would look better on a TMNT than a person. Man, if these catch on, I will be very surprised (and annoyed).

TMNT- I was thinking the same thing. Not all ideas are good ideas, it would be a good sandal if the wearer was concerned about tan lines. The only time i think it would be most appropriate to wear is by the poolside, but I would never purchase or actually wear it.

Cool! I always wanted to have feet that looked like they belonged on a Sleestak from Land Of The Lost - NOT! :)
