Enso zenPad

$179.00 Released May, 2010

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Runs the open source Android operating system. Nice soft-touch rubber enclosure. Affordable sub-$200 price point.

The Cons:Runs the now ancient Android 1.5 OS (when 2.2 is now available for most smartphones). Very slow operation - slower than first generation Android phone devices. Poor quality resistive touchscreen display.

The Enso zenPad is one of four budget-friendly Android tablet PCs (zenPad, zenPad 2, zenPad 3, zenPad 4) released in mid 2010. As the base unit, the zenPad features a 5" LED-backlit touchscreen display with an 800x480 resolution, 802.11a/b/g connectivity, an included 8GB microSD memory card, an integrated GPS chip, and support for audio/video playback.

Product Shot 2 Critics find the zenPad’s price very impressive, in that for such a low cost, the unit offers so many functions— document viewing, access to email, access to Google, handwriting recognition, etc. Signature though is that for an extra fee, users can obtain a micro-USB dongle that’ll provide them with UMTS/HSDPA/EVDO or GSM/EDGE connectivity.
