I'm Erik Kalviainen, one of the founders of ProductWiki. I'm 29 (as of Oct. 20th), Canadian, and graduated from the University of Waterloo in Systems Design Engineering in 2002. I'm a self-professed consumer maven (hence the website), and I have a lot of interests outside of the Internet including soccer, music, movies, space, math, and reality tv.

Stop by the IRC channel and say hello!

on the web

I am very/somewhat/slightly active on many of the newer social websites. Here's a link to my accounts on these sites (in order of preference):

  1. del.icio.us - ekalvi - digg gets more attention but del.icio.us has captured my heart
  2. StumbleUpon - ekalvi - originally a fellow Canadian company. A great way to find cool stuff (and waste time)
  3. digg - ekkalvia - slightly obsessed with Linux/Ubuntu/AJAX but good nonetheless. Great design
  4. LinkedIn - ekalvi - great site for business stuff. I always promise to use it more, but fail to do so.
  5. Twitter - ekalvi - Yes, I have Twitter. It's a love/hate thing.

I purposely left FaceBook off of the list, because I find it pretty annoying because provides very little value while wasting a hell of a lot of time. I've aggregated my social web on FriendFeed here: http://friendfeed.com/ekalvi. It's a pretty cool service, I suggest trying them out. (You can even add your ProductWiki taps to the feed by putting in the URL of your lists tab).

Hi??? I hope you can help me. I purchased a modified Xbox with the Xbox 360 Media Center , emulators and all that good Stuff. My 6 year boy played it and pressed something that has it locked in the Screen where you can only choose, Memory, Music, Settings, and Xbox Live. THe screen is green and you see an Image of the Console in the back. I'm able to enter the Memory along with the others but I'm not able to get back to the main screen to play the games. Can you Please Help me?? Is there a code, or a combination of buttons that I have to press on the Controller simultaneosly. I've tried the 2 triggers along with the two blacks but nothing happens. do you know a trick or something. Please Help??

hey you have the lifecam cinema? i've been waiting for consumers to post reviews about this webcam. do you think you can upload a video review or a demonstration of the video's recording capabilities? I am very interested in how it compares to the Logitech Quickcam/Webcam(updated) Pro 9000. One of my concerns is that Microsoft isn't advertising a low-lighting technology like Logitech's RightLight. Instead, M$ has "ClearFrame" which to my understanding is the technology behind recording 30 fps at full HD.

Please, if you can post any video demo-ing the Lifecam Cinema's capabilities, I'd greatly appreciate that.

You can contact me through my email: DTrinh09@gmail.com

I read your review of the the Sony Vaio JS all in one series.

http://www.productwiki.com/sony-vaio-js-series/

A lot of people stated that they had a problem with 1080p video.

What is strange is the X45000HD graphics card that comes with this system is supposed to be handle 1080 according to the specifications.

Streaming video from the internet is a big issue with me. I know 1080p is not prevalent for streaming from the internet right now, but I want to be able to use the computer I buy for a while.

Did you or anyone you know ever stream 1080p video with this system? Did you have problem with it?

If I upgrade to a better machine with a pentium E7400 (2.80GHz, 3MB L2 Cache) with NVIDIA® GeForce® 9300M GS GPU with Total Available Graphics Memory of 2030MG, do you think this will that solve the problem?

Hi Erik,
I love your website, I have a question to ask about one of your reviewed products. I am currently looking to buy a AV reciever. I have 120w speakers and would like to fully utilized them.

I am caught between a Sony STR-DG920 and Pioneer VSX-1019ah

I noticed that you have sony a 83 rating and the pioneer a 71. However, it said you perfer the sony over the pioneer vsx-1018ah-k (which is the older model version of vsx-1019ah).

I would like to know why you perfer the pioneer when you gave it a lower proscore rating. if not, could you answer, bottom line, would you perfer the pioneer vsx-1019 over the sony str-dg920, which comes out next month. In a budget minded purchase, I can purchase the sony dg920 for $400, would the pioneer 1019ah be worth the extra 100 dollars?

I plan to use ps3, karoke, dvd and digital satellite for the receiver.

Sounds cool man, I'll be sure to check it out!

Many thanks for your welcome to the site, Erik. And congratulations to you, Omar and the rest of the hard-working and knowledgeable folks who make it awesome!

I'm in the market for a Samsung or Sony HDTV 1080p by Xmas time, so I'm trying to keep up with the latest developments. This revamped "LED backlight" technology seems to be very promising, and might even change the LCD/Plasma standards as we now know them... don't you think?

Regards,
fpcross

"yeah i get that! i meant to say, that because i dont have any products there it shows an error message of "We could not find a feed tag in the given page. Please enter the RSS or Atom feed url instead.""... instead i use my rss feed form my product page!

Ubuntu is better supported and works better if you know how to use it. It also lets you change more settings.
