Ex-Geeksquad updated Westinghouse LVM-42w2

June 30, 2009 at 10:06 pm

new pro/con: 8ms response time (great for gaming)

new pro/con: 550 cd/m2

new pro/con: Great colors

new pro/con: Mountable

new pro/con: Power save when not in use long enough.

tapped as "have it"

new pro/con: 60Hz. This is still the norm, but now that they have 120Hz and 240Hz, it requires an upgrade.

new pro/con: Looks at least as good as many much higher priced competitors.

new pro/con: Stylish black and grey exterior.

new pro/con: Only 1 HDMI port. This was probably the norm when it was built, but now it seems lacking.

new pro/con: Built specifically as a monitor -- no HD tuner built in. No tuner at all actually (not that it matters if you're running cable/satellite/DVD/Blu-ray)

new pro/con: Wonderful monitor for gaming, content creation, etc., etc., etc.

new pro/con: Matte finish for non-glare

new pro/con: Contrast ratio (1000:1) is very noticeable in very dark movie scenes

new pro/con: Remote with quick-buttons for PIP and video modes

new pro/con: Solid (not tinny) sound

new pro/con: 1080p

new pro/con: Port quantity (dvi, hdmi, component, composite, digital audio, etc.)

new pro/con: Easily navigable menu

new pro/con: Very Bright at highest settings

new pro/con: Great price ($1100 when I bought it)

tapped as "love it"

Ex-Geeksquad commented on Westinghouse LVM-42w2

June 30, 2009 at 9:51 pm

"I've had this monitor since September, 2006, and it's never had a problem. I got it for a good deal when I still worked at Best Buy for around $1300 (including service plan), which at that time was about $300 less for comparable products.

The brand threw me for a loop -- I always thought of Westinghouse as a light bulb and toaster maker, but since the name was bought out and tacked onto LCD's, they seem to have done the name proud.

Bottom-line: It's been a great monitor to have, and my friends are still jealous of this monster sitting in front of my keyboard."
