FIFA 09 is the 16th installment of the FIFA series of soccer/football games released by EA Sports in October 2008 for the 2008/09 season. The game features many improvements (250 as quoted by EA Games) to the game, including many to gameplay physics and animations, as well as improvement to the online experience. A notable new features is the "Be a Pro" (BAP) mode that allows you to play as a single player throughout the course of a game or even entire career. Also, new to the game is the addition of adidas Live Season, a feature that will automatically update player form based on how they are doing in the real world. FIFA 09 has been very well received by critics and is speculated to be the best soccer game every made, ousting Pro Evolution Soccer/Winning Eleven of its title.

- amazing gameplay - significantly better than previous generations
- "Be a Pro" mode allows 10 to play at once
- many different online game options including leagues, starting your own club, and tournaments
- custom goal celebrations
- awesome new player animations create a more submersive experience
- keeps decent gamer stats: wins, losses, DNF%, streak, GFA, GAA, etc.
- automatic player form updates based on real world performance with adidas Live Season
- perhaps the best soccer game ever made
Cons
- adidas Live Season isn't free after 2008/09
- asks to download squad updates every time you start a Live! quickmatch
- cumbersome, awkward menu system as usual
- it takes way to long from the time you load the game to when you can kick off
- jerks on Live! quit when you're winning
- only tracks the rank of the top 10,000 players on Live!
