The FitBit is a mid-grade fitness device that tracks a user’s sleep, movement, and burnt calories. It clips onto a user’s clothing and then gathers motion data in three dimensions, after which it converts it into useful information. It includes a wireless base station that collects data from the unit (within 15’) and then syncs the information to a PC via a USB connection. The system comes with an included software package that once installed, allows users to monitor their health dashboard online at FitBit. The analysis is based off the user’s age, height, weight, and gender AND keeps a detailed track of a user’s activity level — including highs/lows, intensity, and calorie intake/outtake (user must log their nutritional info online). The FitBit is currently available for pre-order, but will not begin shipping until January 31st, 2010.
