G-Tech G-RAID3

The G-Tech G-RAID3 is an external hard drive built with RAID 0 technology. There are two SATA drives in the unit which come in a maximum combined capacity of up to 3TB. RAID 1 is missing from this model as it has been specifically designed for data intensive professional applications such as video and audio editing. RAID 1 is a safe configuration where two drives are split up and one is a duplicate of the other for backup purposes. This drive only has RAID 0 which recognizes both drives as one without backing up data, doubling the total usable drive space and making it faster to work with as well. This is basically a next generation G-RAID mini but with an internal cooling fan and greater capacity. There is an extra Firewire 800 connection on the back, bringing the total to five available ports including 3Gbit eSATA, USB 2.0, Firewire 400 and two Firewire 800. As are all of G-Techs external drives, it not only looks like a Macintosh in design but it also comes preformatted as HFS+ and is instantly recognized by OS X and Time Machine. Windows users will need to reformat the drive as NTFS before it can be used. The eSATA connection supports data transfers of over 200MB per second and the drive is compatible with multiple video and audio formats for data streaming.
