Garmin Edge 500

Garmin's Edge 500 is a mid-range GPS-enabled workout assistant intended for use with a bicycle, and it features a low-profile and simple mount setup to attach to handlebars. It tracks distance, speed, location and elevation, and uses HotFix satellite predictions which enhance the speed of calculation of these values. The 500 also tracks data like time, calories burned, climb and descent amounts, as it has a barometric altimeter. If desired, it can be linked to third-party power output meters or a heart rate monitor for further statistics. The Edge unit then connects to a computer via USB cable, to upload, store and analyze riding data. This includes access to Garmin Connect, an online data analysis service for users of Garmin products. Note that this unit does not have the capability to display actual maps.
