Garmin Oregon 450
$400.00
Released January, 2010
The Pros:AA battery support enables worry-free international functionality. Geo-tagged picture navigation is quick, comprehensive and accurate. Pocket-sized unit is ideal for rural and inter-city exploration alike - smaller than similar units such as the Garmin 60CSX.
The Cons:Screen visibility is diminished in direct sunlight - moreso than with the 60CSX. Standard directional accuracy may vary up to 15 feet - 60CSX model is generally more precise. Lack of "Mark Waypoint" function makes on-the-go directionality very difficult.
The Garmin Oregon 450 is a mid-range, handheld GPS navigation device designed for outdoor use. Navigation of a worldwide, shaded-relief basemap is accomplished via a 3", sunlight-readable touchscreen.

The 450t adds more complex, 3D-navigable maps. The Oregon 450 can wirelessly share waypoint and route data with other handheld Garmin GPS units. Geocaching support includes the ability to download GPX files, which hold location, terrain, and other details, to the device. A 3-axis electronic compass, without which a device must be held level to receive directions, and a barometric altimeter, which tracks altitude and predicts changing weather conditions, elevate the Oregon 450 above entry-level models. Maps can be added to the device via microSD card slot.
