Gateway NV53A24u
$530.00
Released June, 2010
The Pros:Matte outer surface with wavy lines looks sleek and high-end. Keys are spaced out, large comfortable surface to type on. Includes a full numeric keypad, good for spreadsheet work.
The Cons:Number keys are small and awkward, easy to miss. Buttons at the touch pad work on a rocker bar rather than being distinct buttons, need to hit them just right to work. Keyboard doesn't provide much tactile feedback, hard to tell you've pressed the button.
The NV53A24u is an entry-level model in Gateway's NV53A series of 15.6" consumer notebook computers all equipped with mainstream AMD processors and entry-level discrete graphics chips, targeting a casual-gamer audience.

It utilizes the dual-core AMD Athlon II X2 P320, which runs at 2.3GHz, and is equipped with 4GB of DDR3 RAM. With 256MB of dedicated graphics memory via ATI's Radeon HD 4250, the NV53A24u should perform adequately in less demanding games. It features 320GB of hard drive space and an HDMI port for outputting HD video to a larger screen. A 3.7-hour battery life and built-in Wi-Fi ensure moderate mobility, but Gateway's Intel-powered laptops offer longer battery life, and some models add Bluetooth.
